UAB consensus pick of ESPN panel to win C-USA (WKU got one vote to Blazers’ three). Plus LA Tech among teams to keep an eye on this season.
If we finish out of the top 5 in this league it’s a gots to go situation for Sanchez.
Agree. If he can’t win in this league with this roster, he’s a career assistant.
If we don’t make significant inroads this year, I say we start a very earnest movement to bring Bobby back. Never thought I’d say that, but at this point, what the heck. I’m exhausted by our futility since Bobby’s high point.
Love Lutz but just a reminder that the first six years of our current futility came under his watch.
As much as we bad mouth CUSA basketball the top 3 or 4 teams over the past couple years have won 20 or more games and the league champ has won a couple games in the tournament. With the unbalanced schedules I would say we should be no lower than 3rd in the east. The third place team in the east over the past few years has averaged around 5 conference losses. I think I would be happy with that. I want us to be competitive and to play hard.
I think a lot of CUSA teams have gotten better with the portal. Its interesting that the portal seems to be having the opposite effect of what I originally thought in basketball and football for that matter. I thought we would lose even more of our top contributors. Hopefully, we can create sort of a sweet spot where we become the landing spot for guys that just don’t quite fit in at the P5 level.
Sadly I would happily take Bobby Lutz futility at this point. 2 NITs in 6 years, 3 winning records, 3 top 6 conf finishes. Thats not great but compare that to the last 10 years and ugh…
Man its depressing. Hopefully this year it gets turned around!
The improvement from the portal is fool’s gold IMO.
You’re forgetting that the reason there are so many quality players available in it is because of the extra Covid eligibility year. Once that rolls out of the system, I expect the portal to revert to the P5 farm system it was intended to be.
This…
I have some deep concerns about the portal - but we have to hope that top flight players will be impatient at P5 programs when they get recruited over and we can be a landing spot and the AAC won’t hurt in landing some of those kids. I do fear that the days of us having players worthy of a jersey in the rafters are gone.
Yeah probably not going to have as many 4 year stars. Shame.
I would think Hill’s next basketball hire will be a good one.
clt says Young has a chance to be in the rafters. just needs post season success
Young.
Well he’s on the back end of his run here. The next Young like player that has his type of freshman year with no sit out transfer option - we shall see.
He could have another 3 seasons if he wants them so not really the back end. Remember, last season didn’t count towards eligibility.
Add Lutz to compliment this athletic department and university leadership and magic happens.
I still have confidence in Sanchez and hope this will be his breakout year.
Kenneth Lofton Jr. #65 and Andy Kennedy #67 on this Jon “Mr. Cliche” Rothstein list:
He played his freshmen year, last year doesn’t count and he plays this year, Thats 2 down and 2 to go - I count that as back end .
That’s some fuzzy back-end math. Especially for a season that hasn’t even started. Regarding the math I side with ninerfan55 on this one.
