Turnovers killed us and the refs did us no favors, but that 7:30 to finish the first half was a killer. 1 FG in that time frame and 2 FTs for 4 points. That just absolutely killed the momentum we had going. I just donât understand how we end up hitting these droughts. It is mind boggling. Of all my complaints about Sanchez this is the biggest one. It has been consistent with him through each team.
If I am not mistaken during that last 7:30 there were quite a few bad shots taken as well by Trapp. That is my biggest complaint as well, at times players try to do it all themselves and they remain in the game. I am not saying you pull the guy out after one bad shot, but sometimes a minute on the bench can reset things.
Here are the players offensive and defensive ratings per 100 possessions. Higher Ortg the better the lower defensive the better. Threadgill and Braswell both are playing over 20 minutes a game as well. Personally I would love to see the first five on the screen shot play the most minutes at this point.
Totally agree - first 5 should get the most time. Clydeâs mins need to go down as first non big off bench. I donât understand Luka getting mins at all.
Also I need Threadgill to stay aggressive. He has a few good games then gets timid again. Need him to flip that switch. A few times last night needed to pull the trigger or go to the rim.

I feel bad saying it but Luka doesnât give us anything on the floor on either side of the court. I am baffled by how much he plays, or that he plays at all. Nothing against him personally, but itâs just not justified.
The biggest take away from those #s is that Trapp should play less and Cannon should probably get some more minutes. The caveat to me though is the dynamic of how Trapp or another guard playing lead at letting Young play the 2 / off on offense. I havenât spent the time to figure out in which role Young, and the team prospers. I try to pay attention to how things change when Fowlkes plays the point, but he doesnât get many minutes. Trapp plays the position mainly for himself, so itâs not a great determinant.
Itâs entirely possible to be fans of some of the players and critical of bad officiating and not think that Sanchez is amazing or even good. In fact, I just wrote a ridiculously long post about how we are underachieving this season.
With Musa out now, we should be going only 7 deep and only going deeper when their is foul trouble. Braswell and Garcia should be the only 2 off the bench that get significant minutes. Francois and Cannon play when there is foul trouble or in specific game situations.
My preference would be to play more players, but at this juncture, no one else is contributing. We have a solid 6, but do need a backup big also.
I also would of preferred to see Jahmir play less minutes this year. He is a great player, but think he could still have the same averages playing 30 to 32 minutes a game vs. 35.
Personally, I think this is the problem with our offense. The last 8 minutes of our game, only 4 shots were taken from players not named Jahmir or Clyde. 1 was a 3 from Aly, 1 was a 3 from Jared and 2 were layups from Austin in the final minute.
I believe both Jackson and Rob scored all of their points in the 2nd half. They needed some opportunities in the last 8 minutes. They also make Jahmir better.
You brought up Cannon and I agree that at times I think he is a spark plug and should play more. During this game though he seemed overwhelmed with the physicality of La Tech. I think that is the problem with the rotation is there are not many go to guys on the bench. I am looking for the guy who gives you the same consistency no matter the opponent. That is something I have noticed with the guys coming off the bench (exception is Braswell) that you just donât know what you are going get from game to game with them.
Just to give you all couch qbs some first hand experience here coming from a guy that occasionally came off the bench during church league games, coming off the bench isnât easy. If you get yanked after missing your first shot or committing your first turnover on your first pass, it hurts your feelings and messes with your head.
Since you only occasionally came off the bench, were you usually starting or the Eli Bennett of the team?
I was the Goldwire of church league. Iâm sure there is dinner tables where my competition to this day tells their children what they witnessed. One year the starters were determined by the first 5 to show up at game. Very cut throat.
A quick assessment:
Cannon seemed a bit overwhelmed in the game for some reason
Trapp made some bad plays offensively and defensively. Then had some WOW plays. Then some bad plays
I really want Luca to play and play well. Just hasnât happened this year. I attribute to rust and confidence in his shot. Looks great in warmups.
Braswell needs to get more screens up top and shoot when open. Like his shot. Needs to be quicker laterally on defense
Threadgill. So many glimpses of breaking out, then a game like last night where he just couldnât or wouldnât pull the trigger
Young. Love his play, but needs to feel the draughts and push his scoring
AK needs to be a little more selfish down low. Love is overall game and upside
Austin. He had some head scratchers but live his toughness and aggressiveness.
Like to see Folkes play point and free up Young to play two.
Francois is getting better defensively
Garcia has soo much upside talent but looks lost on the floor
Turnovers, most unforced, killed us. Refs didnât help in that 4 minute stretch in second half.
Thatâs one metric, which is based on FG%, which is how Threadgill can be higher than Young. But hereâs another, based off of point per minutes, which is more along the lines of what I was thinking the discrepancy would be.
Perhaps Threadgill is getting the mins heâs getting because of TOs, which he has the best ratio on the team.
Couldnât Agree more with your assessment.
I felt the devastation of a Niner basketball loss that I have not felt in a long time. Thatâs a good sign.
First time in a very long time a ref was able to elevate my blood pressure. I guess thatâs a sign I care.
