2021-22 Men's Basketball Schedule & Opponents 🏀

He made it into the season I am pretty sure, but it was broken very early in the season. I was trying to find that info.

EDIT: Wiki says game 2 of season. So that is either Long Beach State at home or App on the road. I am not sure if game 1 that year vs college of charleston - if they were an exhibition or legit game.

It was early. I was a sophomore at the time and was pumped for the season. Henry as a Senior and Jarvis coming off of a National Freshman of the year campaign… If Jarvis had not gotten hurt that season could have been historic.

That was my first introduction to the 10 Commandments of Niner Basketball.

I was at the game where Jarvis broke his wrist. My recollection is that it was Coastal Carolina. I remember doubling them up for most of the game. We played them in Belk Gym that game.

I thought I remembered it being in Belk Gym too…maybe that’s why I thought it was Midnight Madness.

Yes, that is my recollection as well.

Many have said this previously but Ron just doesn’t understand the culture of basketball at UNC Charlotte. This is a perfect example of that.

A lot of nnn is old. Will this board die off with its old members or is there enough fresh blood to sustain?

Need to start winning for more people to care. Also, technology changes. Agent 49 has the Discord thing which many of us also use.

Yeah a lot of new blood on discord because it’s more mobile friendly. I personally don’t like the layout of the discord and prefer a traditional board. Either way need to win more.

I think it was Cal State game. Early too.

I forgot about Malru Dottin

Those are outstanding numbers for anyone. But they are particularly good for a guy who was supposed to play small forward but ended up being responsible for clearing enemy bodies away from the hoop after forward Jarvis Lang broke a wrist against Cal State Long Beach in the team’s second game. Lang was the NCAA leader among freshmen last season in scoring (19.6) and rebounds (10.6).

I remember when we used to be ranked and not rank. Hope those days are close at hand again.

That was Long Beach State not Cal Long Beach. Or at least that’s what they were called back then.

We played CoC and LBSU in Belk to open that season. I gues he did do it against them instead of Coastal. I was at both games, and I was in the front row by the basket where he did it, and I saw and heard it. Was a major downer both that night and for the season. That lineup was fantastic.

F Dottin 6.8 / 6.6
F Lang 19.6 / 10.9 (freshman All American stats)
C Odom 11.9 / 8.7
G Terrell 13.0 / 1.5
G Williams 20.8 / 3.4

That was a top 15, maybe even a top 10 team if Lang hadn’t gotten hurt. As it was, they were ranked #17 in January despite having to start Kenny Wiley in Lang’s place.

I was at a party at Orchard Trace Apts the night we played #1 Duke and hung with them for most of the game before they pulled away in the closing minutes. We were all bummed, because the year before Lang had his breakout game against an equally ridiculous Duke team, and he might have made the difference that night. IIRC, Charles Barkley was singing his praises after that Freshman year game against them, as we were tied with them with just a few minutes left in the game (and this was the NC level Duke team with Hill, Laettner, and Hurley)…

That team went on to lose 76-74 to Iowa State in the NCAA tournament, which I watched in the Cone Center with some other fanatics. Was an unfortunate end to the best team I think we had until probably either that Colson/DJ team in 98, or the 2001 Rodney White team.

What I wouldn’t give to be that relevant now.

Correct. Long Beach State. They were the 49ers back then. Now they are The Beach :man_facepalming:.

That 91-92 LBSU team was coached by Seth Greenberg and had both Lucious Harris and Bryon Russel. We beat the doors off of them. Alas….

Long Beach State unveiled a new mascot last year, Elbee the Shark, but as noted, sports teams are known as the Beach. Except the baseball team, which is the called the Dirtbags!

Haven’t kept up with this Bahamma tournament but kind of surprised that we match up with Toledo in the first game. Who’s supposed to win this thing? I don’t see any seeding numbers, but I would think we could get a game against Abeline Christian or Jacksonville state first? Anyone know how they seeded it?

Here is the bracket, but with Abilene dropping out due to Covid Coastal is getting a bye and Jacksonville is playing Valpo. Baha Mar Hoops – Nassau, Bahamas
