After the Gardner Webb game on 09/11 we will not have another Saturday game at home until 11/06. I do appreciate the tv exposureā¦just wish it was on Saturday.
It looks good from a TV perspective but itās not a good way to build a base. If you are on the fence about season tickets, you likely arenāt anymore.
However, if attendance is low for the weeknight games itās not going to look good on TV
But⦠if we canāt fill our 15k stadium on a Thursday/Friday should we be expanding to 25-30k? I know we should expand so we arenāt the smallest, Iām just sayin. The AD needs to find butts for the seats.
Heard on the radio that our Duke opener is up against CHeat vs VA Tech at the exact same time.
Iāll ignore the quip about how bad their decision making is⦠We need to have a good showing against Duke.
As a football fan, that weekend is incredible for local programs. We are all playing each other. Iām gonna need to raid the emergency reserves of wings and beer, and I will probably fuse with my couch.
Thur 9/2
Coastal vs Citadel
App vs ECU
Fri 9/3
Duke vs Charlotte
ODU vs Wake
CHeat vs VA Tech
All before Saturday (when I think the feature game is Clemson vs Georgia). Gonna be a great weekend.
Tough balance between TV exposure and butts in the seats. Bottom line is if we are winning, butts in the seats will take care of itself. If we are 2-1 with a competitive game against Duke, people will be at the MTSU game. If we are 1-2 with a blowout loss versus Duke it might be a different story.
I believe the Duke game will set the tone for the season.
Does anyone know how the process works on scheduling? For OOC games, do both teams have to agree to the date and time or does CBS just tell them? How about conference games? Is it the schools, conference or TV?
First game against Duke and we worried about filling our stadium?? Thatās crazy talk. The only question I have is how many ticket holders will cash in on StubHub?
The TV network dictates the date and time. When the contract is negotiated the number of mid-week games is restricted and/or higher payouts are given to the league for those games.
We only control the date and times for games that are not picked up by our TV partners.
44 bowls, 1 of which is the NC game⦠So 43 bowls x 2 = 86 slots for FBS teams. Out of 130 teams. Two thirds of the FBS programs will go to some type of postseason. How do you even get 86 bowl eligible teams?
At this point, if you donāt make a bowl, is it not a failure of a season?
I still long for the playoff system I was pimping last season. So much more interesting than all of these FCS level bowls. I donāt see the point of most of them, since there is a pretty clear divide between P5 and G5 in them.
I donāt expect it to hit attendance too much. We donāt have that many out of towners trying to get in. It will hit tailgating sure, but the Friday games I donāt think will be too far off normal. Now the Thursday game is gonna be tough. Tailgate def will be down and with needing to go to work the next day it might not be something folks want to do.
Now as for building the program - tv is how you do it. The sunbelt brings in more money because they agreed to weekday games. Recruits love knowing they play on TV. Weekday TV games will get students more likely out.
If it was more than 1 Thursday game I might be upset, but I can handle a Thursday and Friday games.
What we really need to do is win these games and everything else will fall in place. I will be at every one but will miss my tailgating on Thursdayās and Fridayās.
