2021 C-USA Football

They were the only CUSA team rated worse than us on defense… So since we need help on defense, I’m gonna guess No.

Oh well

Entertaining game and a great crowd at the Alamo Dome.

That was a P6 crowd last night.

We need to up our attendance and capacity to those levels.

And they started playing football a mere two years before us. Yep I’m envious as hell. That should be us. Our unis look a million times better.

So let’s do it.

There are some simple things the AD could do to help out. For starters, our tailgating policies are crap. We’re still using stuff copied from ODU. Change it. Next, create an actual entrance for the team. Ours is essentially non-existent. That’s just a couple of ideas to get started.

Now, for the tough part. It’s up to us. Get up and go do it. We have people here that want the stadium expanded that don’t go to games. We have people that b!tch about tailgating that don’t tailgate. Let’s freaking go.

We need to have our fanbase stop finding excuses to not attend events, especially football. Here we are with our second best season ever, with a P5 win and within just a respectable D of 7-8 wins and we have fans saying they are done because they are upset the West might stay on the staff. We have people still not coming to events because of Covid. We have fans saying they won’t donate anymore until x is done. We have fans demanding to see master plan but yet not donating. The list is a mile long. Our AD needs to get better with some things, neither basketball or football gives me warm feelings but our fanbase just sucks.

I hated Judy and Major probably more than anyone but I kept buying tickets and donating. The only time I stopped was 2006-8 when Judy’s leadership got us booted and she wouldn’t address football.
Even then I was still going to games.

If we want to hit P6 level our teams and AD need to get better but our fanbase needs to stop finding excuses to not do X.

All of the schools that have started football in the last 15 years (UTSA, ODU, GA State, and South Alabama) have gotten off to a better start than Charlotte. Lack of vision, support, and ineptitude from our leadership.

clt says only one other school is going to the AAC with us.

We are doing well.

I don’t blame fans and the general public for not religiously coming to games or even following the program. My father in law lives in CLT and did not go to the school and is not a huge sports fan. But he always says he wants to support the program but wish they gave him something to cheer for. I don’t blame him.

We just need football and or basketball to go on a 2-3 year run every 5-10 years to give fans something to cheer for. It’ll make the 4-8 and 5-7 seasons less painful knowing we just enjoyed a 10-2 season a few years prior and the next one is just around the corner (without looking at their history, I’m thinking ECU football for example). 7-6 and our first bowl game was a great season, but we need a really strong season or two to move the needle.

Football
2021: 5-7
2020: 2-4
2019: 7-6
2018: 5-7
2017: 1-11
2016: 4-8
2015: 2-10

Basketball
2020: 9-16
2019: 16-13
2018: 8-21
2017: 6-23
2016: 13-17
2015: 14-19
2014: 14-18

Can’t blame the fans with those results from the last 7-8 years.

Actually GSU didn’t…they have had a better team in more recent years…but they didn’t beat an FBS opponent until their 3rd or 4th season. In fact, we beat an FBS team before they did (them) even they had started several years earlier.

The basketball results are what make me sick. 1 winning season in the past 6 years & unless something starts clicking soon we look to be headed for another close to 0.500 season. That’s so depressing.

Football getting up & going is a little more understandable but we should be better than we were this past season.

Solid points all around.

In basketball, we just haven’t been good. It’s actually a testament to the fanbase that we still bring a few thousand to our games even when we stink. I can’t imagine how many we would have if we started regularly posting 20+ win seasons against solid competition. A packed house is likely.

In football, a bunch of mistakes were made. Mistake #1 was not installing lights right away. I will continue to believe this was the biggest faux pas of our first couple of years. Those crowds we had at our first several games were amazing… Until people got sick of baking in 100+ degree field level heat and direct sun for 3+ hours. If we had played night games from the start, I firmly believe we would have maintained really strong attendance.

Winning matters too, of course, and football needs to do it. We definitely had a a grace period, though that is probably over as of the end of this season. I feel like we are in results mode as of this off-season.

I also like the suggestions to improve the fan experience. Tailgating is the key to getting people on campus. We need to have the best tailgating environment around. I think we should concentrate on tying to grow a centralized tailgating location and let it grow out from there instead of segmenting across multiple lots.

Though I will also offer that we need to continue to find promotions to pack the arena/stadium. Don’t wave the online ticket fees for hoops, offer BOGO or better deals, especially for the upper level end zone seats. Until we are good again, those should almost be free. I know they are pretty cheap now. Same for NW end zone seats in football.

This guy is saying that Marshall, ODU, and Southern Miss may leave after this year.

clt says the lowly sunbelt waived any entrance fees.

I’ve been wondering what the football schedule would look like in 2022 if Marshall and ODU leave.

For the tailgating issue. Is there any land we could clear near the stadium to be a football only parking lot for tailgating? Make it grass like some other schools have. But just a huge area? Maybe over between the practice field and the light rail line? Or expand the parking lot next to the motor sports building?

I am not a tailgate person myself but it would be cool for those that enjoy it to have a giant tailgate Central.

I agree 1000%. Especially the entrance. I tried all last spring to get the marketing guy to present something to Healey and Co. No dice. Our entrance lacks any vision and some of us on this forum have some really good ideas.

Also told the powers to be that tailgating needed to be expanded and we need more parking.
