Had forgotten that father Charlie Spoonhour left Saint Louis for UNLV and that son Jay served as interim for the Runnin’ Rebs when the elder retired mid-season due to health reasons. Charlie had some good years at SW Missouri State (now Mizzou St), SLU, and UNLV, with a combined 8 NCAA and 5 NIT appearances.
Anyway, Eastern Illinois has to be one of those places that winning on the hardwood is going to be difficult. (That said, EIU did produce NBA all-star C Kevin Duckworth.)
Of course, the most noteworthy athletic EIU alums are connected to football - Jimmy Garoppolo, Sean Payton, Tony Romo, and Mike Shanahan, among others.
