Shaka is a Wisconsin native and Texas is a toxic environment for any coach. Fits this job much better. Looks like a good hire for Marquette.

But Iâve long believed, and stated, that once a coach gets on the hot seat, he never really gets off of it because heâs usually just one more bad season from getting whacked nearly regardless of what happens between now and then.
What Parrish doesnât mention but others have is the spector of the new 10,000 seat UT basketball arena (with a $338 million pricetag) scheduled for completion in early 2022. Will be interesting to see who the Longhorns land, especially since money wonât be an issue.

UTRGV hasnât been around long - founded in 2013 when the University of Texas Board of Regents merged UT Brownsville and UT Pan American. Enrollment around 30,000. Medical school opened in 2015, with a law school in the planning stages.
BTW, current institution inherited the D-I membership of UT Pan Am.
School around less than a decade and already has more professional schools than we do with more coming. And the fact that UT Austin, Houston, Baylor, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Southern, St Maryâs, and South Texas already have law schools isnât being used as an excuse. I know itâs a bigger state but that is a bunch more law schools than NC has.
Word is that UNC-CH has submitted a request to let them take over the medical school, because they already have a reputation for running one.
Just reading that the WAC awarded posthumously the leagueâs 2021 COY honor to Lew Hill, who passed away in February. Led the UTRGV program for five seasons after serving as an assistant under Lon Kruger at Oklahoma. Hill was a native of Clinton, NC, and also spent time as an assistant at ECU and at Texas A&M, the latter under Melvin Watkins.
Indiana seems to be following the lead of Michigan in hiring an alum whose coaching experience has been exclusively in the NBA following a playing career in said league. And just now reading that Texas may do the same thing, having interviewed current Nets assistant Royal Ivey.
Thamel mentions Price at Charlotte (among others) as an example of these hires (NBA to college) not working.

Itâs funny how things work out. Aston coached for two top half teams in CUSA, but has ended up at the worst team this time. Good coach, but she has all of the integrity of Mike Houston. I hope she gets punished all season long next year.
