2022-23 MBB - Charlotte @ Rice 1/26 8:00 PM ESPN+

Yep, that’s right. I looked, but couldn’t find the format anywhere. We want to stay above the 6 seed to avoid having to win 4 games in 4 days as opposed to win 3 games in 3 days.

The reason he wants the shot clock ran down is because he does not, has not and will not emphasize rebounding !

CUSA is too tough for Sanchez. If we are gonna keep Sanchez then maybe hill should get us into a lesser conference (eg. big south) for basketball only that would suit Sanchez’s abilities so we can feel like we are competing to win the conference at least.

Remember we lost to D2 Belmont Abbey. Doesn’t matter what competition you play if you try to run the shot clock out on offense continuously and they can hit some 3’s.

I don’t like Ron’s offense but the D is where I really scratch my head. One we arent a very good defensive team. The low scores are more a byproduct of our slow offense. A defense designed to deny penetration seems outdated as most teams would rather shoot. On top of that we actually don’t do a good job of denying penetration.

This!!! We are among the worst teams ive ever seen at stopping dribble penetration…go to
A zone every once in a while…its not rocket science.

We seem to struggle to get our team down the floor and positioned on offense, we look really slow.

Do we have some additional athletic players on the bench that can get some playing time?… offensively we have 2 guys that seem to be the key, the others you would think could be replaced or rotate more off the bench with some other more athletic players regardless of size.

Not sure why we havent recruited some longer quicker players, the AAC is full of them btw.

Not having folkes out there last night really exposed that.

Our NET stayed at #94. Rice up one to #133.

Hard to take a lot from that game when the officiating was so one-sided. Their big clumsy white guy was smacking our guys’ hands on every shot or drive close to the basket and going over the back on several rebounds that hit off us out of bounds, no calls. He must have lightning quick hands (yeah right). I let out a sarcastic laugh when they called a blocking foul on Rice late in the game. There were some things our team didn’t do well, but I really think the Niners win if the calls are even just normal homecooking level. It’s too bad that it wasted some good games from several players (Patterson especially, and Milicic looked better). Williams was clearly getting frustrated by all the grabbing and bumping without any calls, let out some frustration on that baseline dunk late in the game.

Sanchez doesn’t seem to work the refs much to get us some of these calls. Think it would help if he does that more, point out the foul differential and missed calls more often, you see it make a difference for other coaches (as long as he doesn’t overdo it and get too many techs that hurt us). And missing that time run off was kind of ridiculous, I was yelling about it right away. But officials should be catching that first, just another missed call to add to all the others.

One thing to note from here on out: Niners get some of the tougher teams at home (FAU, N.Texas once, UAB), and some bad/middling teams on the road. I don’t necessarily expect it to happen, but 7-3 in the last 10 is not inconceivable. Just wish we had pulled out those FIU and UTEP games, would give us a better chance at top 5. Crazy how many close losses we have this season (the debacle at Detroit Mercy is the only loss by more than 10 I believe).

Another loss blamed on poor officials…

Officiating was poor as it has been all season but poor execution on our part during crunch time cost us the game.

Can’t ever tell on the ESPN+ broadcasts, but Ron does talk to the refs at the home games, especially when there seems to be a discrepancy in the calls. Sometimes it has appeared to make a difference, but in more games the refs seem to believe that they’re infallible and continue to make bad calls or what I feel is even worse for our team, no calls, which allows for bumps and holds that seem to really throw our guys off their game.

When you lose consistently by so few points, the man in the mirror should be able to reflect on what opportunities were squandered to score so few points to secure consistent victories. In other words, it’s the coach’s job to get the right players on the team, in the game and get the right amount out of those players to score at least one more point than the other team, referees be damned. Like I wrote before, it’s a pattern here to blame referees for losses. Does it get old?

Yep, missing a point blank layup and then fouling best Rice player Olivari in a tie game etc definitely contributed to the loss.

Dude why are you even on here. Your mantra is always the same, fire (insert coach or AD name here). Gets old.
If we win you say the coach should have had us win by more. If we lose you beat the same drum again.
The horse is dead and you have beat it into the ground.
