Sanchez is terrible. You know it, I know it and the American people know it, to lift phrasing from Bob Dole.
It seems to me that Sanchez is more concerned with the playing within the system than actually winning the games. Weâre better with our scorers attacking but I swear I think he handcuffs them.
No one noticing the clock is unacceptable btw. Someone mentioned Lutz woulda noticed it! Well he sent six guy on the floor once late in a close game so hop off that pleaseâŚ
Blame the coach. Blame the coach. How bout we missed a breakaway layup that would have tied the game? How bout Aly missing a bunny and dribbling off his own leg? How bout two shots at taking the lead that clanked.
Our guys are in the right position to makes plays, sometimes the ball doesnât drop
This team is well coached and fights hard. Am I happy with the last few games, no but to put the blame solely on Sanchez is crap. We have guys missing shots and other guys disappearing from the scoring sheet one game to the next.
We have a chance to finish strong and I believe we will. Go Niners.
Oh a canât wait for the usual 5 posters to come at me.
I partially agree - all a coach can do is put players in the best position to win and then let the players execute.
The question is does Ron put the players in the best position to win? I donât think he is terrible, but you have to look at things and ask yourself is this the ron sanchez ceiling? It appears it is.
I will see how the year ends and how we are playing before I pass final judgement.
This team has zero quit in it.
100% agree. Best case seems we finish middle of the pack. I look to next year and nothing tells me we will be any better.
I do wonder how some our more offensive minded players would do in a more up tempo system with a different personality at the helm. I gotta think Brice is closer to 20 a game than 10 in that setting.
I have been saying the same thing - be patient and see how we close. The issue I have is we are eating into whatever cushion we had if top 4/5 is still the goal, which to me it is. Middle of the pack in CUSA isnât my idea of success.
I donât like the way we go about playing offense but nothing has really changed. Since the blowout loss at Detroit itâs been win the tourney or itâs baseball season. Can we do that? Sure. What are the odds? Slim, very slim
If the season finishes strong all its gonna get us is another season of watching a one trick pony show.
I am right there with NWA on my overall opinion.
He is 100% right about our cushion eroding.
He did that twice. Once at state too
Yeah but weâre not talking about firing the players.
Did you read my first sentence?
An uptempo system basically takes Aly out of the game. Also not sure we have the athletes/ball handlers to run uptempo. Our offensive minded players need to be more offense minded, but we have guys that seem to only shoot layups instead of dunks. This leads to more misses, blocked shots and less fouls called on the defense. I donât think thatâs Ronâs fault. The offense we run isnât night and day different from any other half court offense and provides opportunities for open shots and drives to the rim. I just donât see our guys being able to take anyone off the dribble and go all the way to the rack. If you want to hold Ron & the staff accountable for anything, itâs not getting faster, more athletic players on the roster, (which would allow us to have run outs on offense and crash the offensive boards and still get back on defense). We need a fast point guard and/or 2 guard that can take their man off the dribble, elevate and finish at the rim or dish to open shooters and an athletic 4/5 that is quick and strong enough and can jump to help with rebounding and help defense. If Ron can start bringing those in, you will see our success level rise. If not, heâll join the ranks of Bobby, Alan and Mark coaching elsewhere. Hopefully the AAC doesnât end up just being a lateral move from a basketball conference wise and we can attract higher level recruits. Our program has gone down hill since we had to leave CUSA (and yes, that includes Bobbyâs tenure in the A10 and no Judy was not running our recruiting then). CUSA.2.1 is much better as a whole this year. FAU is the 1st ranked team in a decade and CUSA is starting to get buzz as a possible 2 bid league for the 1st time league since the AAC raided CUSA. So even though I feel like we are a better team this year, so is the conference. Finally, yes weâd be better with JY on the team ( I figure 4 - 5 wins better). The biggest part weâre missing is an Alpha male, give me the ball and Iâll help at crunch time but maje everyone else better throughout the game. It would then be incumbent on the rest of the team ti elevate their games.
I am afraid I have some bad newsâŚbut first, let me make sure you know more about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny
Williams can be that guy. Hell he has been at times. Not sure why he doesnât take over more often. I get the feeling heâs handcuffed
We absolutely can run a more uptempo half court set. Our offensive challenge is Ronâs teaching that you HAVE to work the ball around and bring the shot clock down. Way too many times we give up a good look early in the clock just to pass it around and end up with a bad shot. We also tend to always let the defense set up as we run our offense. More than anything we donât seem to have a go to to get a bucket play. When we hit that drought - even when we had Jahmir, we donât seem to have a plan to go get two.
Halfway through the CUSA season, we are 4-6. We have to go 7-3 the rest of the way to finish ABOVE .500. That would make us 20-11 overall. Thatâs probably not good enough for a high seed. We need to be more like 8-2 or 9-1 to get in the Top 4. If we have a magic button that will put us over the top in these close games, now is the time to press it.
clt agrees about layups, dunk the damn ball!
