Normally I’d say no, but Ron continued to start Matos and Trapp even though they were cancers and bad for team morale.
Ron is a cancer and bad for morale.
Ron also removed Brice from the lineup in 20-21 in favor of Cannon right around the time that season went down the drain. He seems to hold grudges against players who don’t do exactly what he wants no matter the affect on the team & allows players who are clearly bad apples to continue playing. I’m usually in favor of old school coaches who demand discipline from players but it doesn’t seem to work for Ron. He only put Brice in the starting lineup this season when it was clear what he was doing wasn’t working & his job was in danger.
If you’ve watched the season unfold and think Jackson threadgill is better than Brice Williams I have absolutely nothing for you pal. We have a coach that continues to make objectively bad choices and his decisions about PT and starting Brice has been a centerpiece of that.
It basically took Brice being an absolute beast and getting POTW to get the same type treatment than players significantly less skilled than him get. Players who are not and have not ever been close to the talent that Brice is. That’s objectively piss poor decision making from Ronnie.
HUGE day for NINER basketball both on the women’s and men’s side! At worst let’s go 1-1! BEAT MTSU!
strong are the hate tinted glasses on these people.
Brice is a great player and my favorite on the team. I am also not so blind as to see the following:
- Had severe knee injury that took him time to recover from
- Got and gets beat to the hole on defense too often especially early in the year. Better as of late
- Wasn’t aggressively rebounding the ball. Look at the trend line on that lately
- JT did not and does not take Brice’s position on the floor. Igor went to the bench when Brice starts
- Brice had a lot of personal tragedy to overcome the day he stepped on campus. Tough losing your Dad and then going to the school where he was an all time great.
Brice is a great player and even better young man. He is growing into has role as Alpha and will continue to.
I thought coaches said Threadgill was our defensive specialist but I haven’t been seeing him guarding the other guys best scorer.
There’s the Threadgill that attacks the rim and Threadgill that just passes it around the perimeter.
I don’t like dumping on JT but of our seven players averaging over 15 mins a game, he is next to last in 3pt%, last in rebounds, by far last in FG%, last in steals… How does this justify the second most minutes ppg.
I’d argue that this has often been a team problem.
I would also say that our best lineup includes both Brice and Igor.
Absolutely correct.
Today I agree with that assessment, but prior to league play, I felt like Brice was a good fit off the bench but still playing major minutes. Now Patterson is playing that role and doing it well.
Our best lineup (IMO) is as follows:
Aly
Igor
Brice
Gipson
Patterson
I agree with you on that being the best lineup we have on paper. It is our tallest lineup and our best scoring lineup. Everyone on the court can score and all can shoot the 3 ball. Yes, Folkes and JT can play D better than some guys but are pretty limited in other areas. This lineup is the most balanced. Now, it is not that easy as matchups/ game plans play a role, fatigue, injuries, etc.
Attacks the rim? When?
Let’s go NINERS!!! Game 1!
Earlier in the year with the give and goes from Aly. He has shown the ability to drive to the basket but for whatever reason does It very sporadically.
Threadgill and Aly still try to run their 2 man game, but the tape is out there now and other teams simply deny it most of the time. Aly’s assist #s are way way down as a result. He has essentially become a different player late in the season. He now is a combo inside / out big man. As others have said, he is dangerous when he pulls the opposing center out from under the basket because he can hit an open 3. He does a little bit of work with his back to the basket too, though he struggles against more athletic big men.
For Jackson though, that leaves him with very few scoring opportunities as he doesn’t tend to shoot or even create his own shot much.
Agree that lineup should be getting majority of minutes most games, unless we have matchup issues with opponent.
You do have to mix and match to get guys rest.
Losing Aldrich is big. Puts Igor out of position
clt says an important pillar is adjusting to other coaches having tape on you
Because he cant against most players. Subpar handles and limited strength
