2022-23 Niner Basketball šŸ€

FAU lost the first game of the CBI last year. I don’t think that experience translated into their success this year.

And Middle Tennessee made it to the championship game vs eventual winner UNCW. Rice too lost in the first round.

And as a reminder, North Texas won it in 2017. Ensured Grant McCasland didn’t have a losing season during his first year in Denton.

Been wondering who Hunter’s source was for the postseason/lookahead piece. Surely our MBB staff knows our metrics don’t fit NIT criteria. Hmm…

BTW, ā€œinterestingā€ that the Niners piece got more space in today’s Big O than the CLTFC vs Atlanta United game did.

Especially considering they start 2 freshmen this year, as @TheShowDawg pointed out.

Also, this stupid tournament is only available on FloSports.

We have extra money to play in an exibition tournament
But none to buy out Ron ???

Fuch no.

It’s pretty obvious it isn’t a money issue, it’s a lack of willingness.

Hill is gonna go down with the Sanchez ship.

It’s almost time to start a Fire Mike Hill thread

Does that mean we have accepted a CBI bid?

Per Cameron Williams we have.

What really bothers me about this is that I and quite a few other fans used to make fun of programs like ECU for playing in the CBI when it was first started.

Mike Hill has probably already drafted his press release about the positive step forward the CBI invite is for the program and how it shows the success of Ron Sanchez.

When that press release hits, the bar has officially been lowered to that which we used to make fun of.

Charlotte basketball and its long suffering fans have been put in their place better than any of our long term detractors could have ever orchestrated on their own.

And Hunter per his tweet. Surprised no one has commented on the rest of his piece beyond the CBI part.

With the shift in NIT participation, participating in CBI makes a little more sense now if you think team is on cusp. Don’t take this as my endorsement of this endeavor.

Paywall.

I mean there are ways around it, but it requires a few more seconds of effort than I think some want to exert at this point. Nothing against Hunter. He does a great job.

Or maybe it’s just because of how depressing the substance is:

Charlotte ended its 10-year stint in C-USA on a three-game losing skid, falling to 9-12 in conference play and 18-14 on the season. Twenty-win seasons have become a high watermark for the program, and this was the closest the Niners have been in the past decade.

Or are you talking about this?

The additional postseason play could be a last-ditch effort for Sanchez (68-78 overall head coaching record) to extend his tenure with the program to a sixth year, which would be Charlotte’s first in the American Athletic Conference.

Or is it this stinker:

ā€œI’m not sure that I spend two minutes thinking about what Charlotte needs to do to retain (student-athletes). College basketball is what it is, we just have to figure out what is good for Charlotte,ā€ Sanchez said. ā€œRight now, we’ve got to find the right individuals who want to be a part of this. Our service to them is to make them the best version of themselves, and this school, this administration has really supported that journey since I stepped foot here.ā€

I don’t ever want to hear ā€œMike wants to win just as much as anybodyā€ ever again. It’s a lie, and I’m sick of the alumni continuing to perpetuate that myth.

Hunter says the CBI might be a last ditch effort to extend his time with the 49ers, but I don’t believe that at all. If Mike wanted to fire him he would have said no to the CBI.

The tournament is a neutral court so I’d put the odds of winning a game at not great. Couldn’t care less even if we won the tournament though.

I like our players and I want to see them succeed but I’m not giving FloSports $40 or whatever to watch our college basketball season participation trophy.

ā€œWe have high expectations at Georgia Tech for all of our sports programs, and it is imperative that our storied men’s basketball program achieves a greater level of success,ā€ athletic director J Batt said.

ā€œOur men’s basketball program is important to our department and to our institution. We will not shy away from expecting to consistently compete for ACC championships, NCAA Tournament appearances and sustained success.ā€

Are we going to hang a CBI banner?

Might as well start a banner for all the CBI invites Sanchez plans on ā€œearningā€ (after we hand them a check).
