Two Kings taking sports bets now? I’m passing by there tomorrow and will definitely put a bet down if they can take it

I liked our chances to cover against Florida…probably wouldnt have bet on it, but I wouldnt put money for us to cover against SMU. I hope to be proven wrong, but the bits an pieces I’ve seen of them, they scare me with how they match up against us. Really hope we compete this weekend.

You miss read what I said. I think we make it a game at SMU I dont think they are as good as MD or UF and I can see us winning. What I said was I don’t think the line is really all that wrong because we haven’t shown we can win. We haven’t shown we can move the ball consistently and we haven’t shown we can keep the other team under 300 yard of offense and until you show you can do some of those things, you are who your games have said you are and that’s where the line is. Want the lines to look better… be better. And I think we will be better. If I wasn’t a Niner though? SMU by 18-20 is what I’d expect because that is who we have been through 3 FBS games.

We have scored how many offensive touchdowns against FBS teams? The defense is encouraging but if SMU can score what 17 to 20 points they good a good shot at winning.

We won’t beat SMU if we don’t establish a clear direction on Offense. Stop with the nonsense that Jones can’t throw. He was 11/16 which is 68% ( and he threw a couple away to avoid sacks). These were not gimmick plays, they were good reads and he made good decisions.
They call different pass plays for the two of them. That has to stop. Pick either Ivey or Jones. If they go with Ivey (which I think is a mistake) they should put Jones on the field somewhere. He is just too dynamic to sit for long periods of time. He ran around on an SEC defense and caused problems.

BUT WHY ARE WE NOT USING OUR RUNNING BACKS MORE? At some point, we are going to have to start looking at our OC. His play calling with Jones and Ivey is suspect.

Why is everyone still arguing about this? Jones through 16 times on Saturday while only playing about 2/3 of the game. I think they realize he can throw.

I really hope they are working on these procedural penalty issues in practice. 12 men on the field, illegal shifts, and false starts. We can’t back ourselves up with the limitations on this offense.

Yup. It’s almost excusable at The Swamp but that’s been a problem all year.

Because he threw for a total of 111 yards.

His FBS game passing numbers are 116, 11 and 111 and 3 ints on 57 attempts. Either the staff doesn’t trust him to run the entire playbook or he can’t make the throws. Ivey threw for 257 in a single game and 1 int on 42 attempts. I don’t care who is playing, but Jalon needs to be able to run the full playbook if he’s the guy and Ivey needs to be able to move and know when to throw the ball away if he is the guy. This restricting the passing game significantly if Jalon is running the show just doesn’t work unless we basically want to move to a mostly triple option team or exclusively RPO.

We need a QB that can play both sides of the game, be it Ivey or Jalon. Hopefully the florida game gives the staff some confidence in Jalon to open the playbook for him. It’s going to be hard to run the ball if Jalon doesn’t help get the defense on their heels some through the air or punish them for stacking the box.

Thanks for basically re-posting what I posted about the Florida game. You do realize things can change/evolve over a few games, right? They clearly called more passing plays for JJ in the Florida game than they had in the previous two. To make it clearer for you, I think they are realizing he CAN pass more than they had him doing earlier. The rest of your post should be obvious to almost anyone.

You asked why people keep talking about it? Sorry of that was rhetorical question?

8-15 vs MD and 11-16 vs Florida. I wouldn’t say that it has changed much up to this point. Hopefully they do evolve more and they open it up for him at SMU.

That is deserved, it was a gritty performance against a powerful physical team.

You know he didn’t play the entire game in either of those, right. Given that fact, these amount of passes for a guy playing ~2/3 of each game when the team’s stated objectives are to ā€œrun the dang ballā€ are probably not going to go up A LOT higher. Particularly when JJ is running the ball as effectively as he was against Florida…If you expect JJ to throw it 25-30 times most games, I expect you will be disappointed.

I think they should go with Jones and run RPO plays getting him out of the pocket and into space. Jones can throw the ball, but he needs run support. His enemy is 3rd and long and our receivers don’t create the space needed for Jones. As we get into conference play I think we will see defenses open up more. They are just not as good as the ones we have played against except for game 1.

He played the majority of both the MD and UF games. I think for our offense to click he probably needs to be able throw it more 20 or so attempts a game make sense to me.
He was running the ball effectively saturday but it came at the detriment of the RB position. He is consistently getting 1:1 coverage and either isn’t being asked to make that throw or can’t or maybe our WRs are just terrible at getting separation We also haven’t done him any favors with some of the routes we are sending our WRs on.

All I am saying is when the RBs can’t run he needs to be able to open the defense up. So far he hasn’t. He has been able to run the ball some, but that is not where our primary rushing should come from unless we decide the identity of the team is basically using him as RB who occasionally might throw. If that is who we are because either we cant block for RBs or Jalon can’t make the throws then so be it, but I think that limits what we can achieve this season. Our starting QB has passed for a single TD on busted coverage and is the leading rusher on the team at 262. It would be nice to see him pick up the passing production and let the RBs rush more.

I know we keep saying we want to run the dang ball - but so far we haven’t really been able to (98th ranked) nor have we been able to pass the ball (110th ranked). Those numbers aren’t going to cut it. I know the competition will get easier it appears so lets hope that helps get our offense on track.

yes, as I had stated he played MOST (~ 2/3 of each) of those 2 games and he threw 15 and 16 times, which WOULD be (if you extrapolate) MORE than the 20 attempts you mention over a full game. I will add one more thing, you keep stating he/we need to throw more and get the RBs involved. However, a QB can’t FORCE those things to happen. Our O-Line has to give the QBs more time and also be able to open up some holes for the running game. Currently, they are doing a sub-par job on both of those fronts.

Those penalties to me are on the coaching staff. I am pleased to see plays getting in quicker. First few games QB had like 8 seconds to make any adjustments.

We can’t use Jones the way we did in the Florida game or we will use him up. I’d rather refine how we use him, hoping he can make the quick hit throws that will keep the defense off him. Meanwhile, I would like to offload a good chunk of the running workload onto our feature backs.
