Let me amend my statement, maybe. Did we ever have the ball down one score in the 4th? If so we were def in that game. I honestly donāt rememberā¦
Being in a game and winning a game are not the same thing of course. The point is we have been within 2 TDs in the 4th of all 4 of our losses. If we can clean up our mistakes and get the offense to click we can win some games. If not we keep losing games like those. Do you just like talking yourself into depression?
Two touchdowns in any quarter is insurmountable in most games with our offense. Our definitions of being in the game are different. If we have a QB like Chris Reynolds, we are potentially in some of those games. We donāt
Problem is NWA, we canāt come back from two scores. Most teams can but we are so limited offensively that 14 pts is a loss for us 99% of the time right now. I hope it changes.
Itās different for different teams. Iāve seen KC down 4 TDS and win and I never thought they were out of it. We simply are so limited that any game we win (against decent teams) pretty has to be nick anf tuck all game. When we play some of the weak AAC teams it could be a little different.
And yes I know weāre college and I know KC is about the most extreme example I could give
Right, again if you feel like we canāt close a 14 pt gap given the teams current performance, thats fair. Given our offenses current production, a 3 pt deficit in the 4th would constitute not being in the game with that thinking. I look at it as we are within 2 TDs with a sucky offense and a gassed D. If we clean that up we can win.
I get that, I do. If we apply that thinking though Iād say a 3 pt game isnāt in the game as our offense hasnt shown any ability to get points when needed. Hell Iād say we arenāt in the game at 0-0 in the first because we canāt really expect to score.
Iām looking at more from a if we fix a few things (put in Ivey and run a standard modern offense) can we be in position to win in the 4th? As things currently are, given all our Fuck ups, we are still with in 2 TDs so I say yeah clean some stuff up and we are there.
You apparently didnāt even watch this game, as TI led us to back to back touchdown drives in the second half. Those occurred in much less than 15 minutes of game time.
You are so smart. You even used a contraction there.
Maybe another Walk on QB can lead us to a bowl game like Reynolds did a few years ago⦠can we hope⦠can you hope?
I sure hope so. God I do.
Itās all about winning for me. I am not sure what our record is this year with moral victories?
ictories? Itās a little late for a walk-on messiah. Maybe IV can learn not to take bonehead sacks, maybe our offensive line will learn to effectively block the run and the pass against competition with less talent, and maybe the minds and health of the defense are not wasted by the coaches after 1-4.
It isnāt about moral victories, it is about are we improving from where we were last year. Anyone expecting a quick turnaround bought into some BS. Football very rarely works that way - especially in college. It takes time. We are better now than we were a year ago. We will know at the end of the season how much we have improved and that isnāt always seen in Ws and Ls at the start of a turn around.
Its pretty hard to impossible to go from what we had last year to undefeated. Have to be a bit pragmatic in the process.
FWIW Iām still not sold in Biff or this staff. Have to see them grow just as much as the kids. My biggest concern is we took chances on a lot of kids - if the losses pile up we need to hope we donāt have locker room issues.
The defense wouldnāt be a question if paired with a serviceable offense. We canāt have a serviceable offense without an effective QB. Itās pretty difficult to play smash mouth run-focused football these days unless the offense is built for it and the play calls are consistent with the playersā talent.
To your point, ½ a year was probably not enough time to build that, and to add, certainly not enough time to have one offense for QB1 and a complete different offense for a walk-on QB2.
Yo mods. Time to move this discussion to 2023 Niner football.

Over half of our snaps are occurring against Heavy Box (feel like I am teeing this up for @hootie)ā¦
And we donāt exploit it with vertical passing against 1 on 1 coverage.
Until we fix this, the season is going nowhere.
Easy fixā¦play Trexler.
I hope weāve decided one way or another and used this off week to get whatever our identify is going to be this year on O established. Weāve been taking wild swings for nearly half a year, itās time to settle in. I think though youāre right we need to go with Ivey but the run/pass mix needs to be like it was against SMU not his previous two appearances.
Lol. Too easyā¦ā¦.
