F@ck Mempiss and all their sports / teams!!
But Jones can run an option style offense that eats up time and keeps the Memphis offense off the field, with Ivey in, the play calling will be different, speeding up the game, and we will get into an unwinnable shootout
Opposing defensive coordinators prepare for both quarterbacks, like they know what type of offense we will be running under each quarterback, so if Jones is in they obviously load the box an play the run, and when Ivey is in they switch to nickel and zone defenses to play the pass
We are too predictable with the play calling based upon which quarterback is in, I think that they are prepared for each quarterback because they know what we are going to do when each one is in, so there would not be much of a need to make significant adjustments
After last week Trexler deserves a chance to make the game his and not look over his shoulder. We don’t want a shoot out but to beat Memphis we will need to put some points in the board and Jalon can’t do that.
However, when the safties are crashing down and more defenders get into the box than blockers they can attack the gaps and stop the option. When we are 3rd and 8 the options become limited and this is why we are the worst team in D1 on 3rd down. Going 3 and out doesn’t keep the opposing offense off the field either. Bottom line for both QBs is that they have to move the ball and not go 3 and out.
I agree. Having an offense that is a little heavier on the running side doesn’t mean it has to be the QB doing the running. Ivey can hand off the ball just like any other QB we have. Give him a shot.
This. Yes, we can STILL run the ball with Ivey at QB and likely have better luck doing that, given that it makes us LESS predictable.
I feel like this game is going to look like the FAU game. Hopefully we commit less penalties and score more points than that game.
I feel like too the pass routes and play calls were altered to help him handle the blitz. That’s been the Achilles heel with Ivey. I even saw a deep slant completed against Tulsa, don’t remember that happening all year. Yes if Ivey throws it 40 times we probably lose going away, but we can be run heavy with him in there. I just hope we’re able to continue handling the pressure.
clt asks if anyone is still suspended?
Biff said at the presser everyone that was suspended is eligible now.
Running is one thing, running up the middle all the time is the issue. Seems to me when we run some misdirection and get outside we have success.
If they keep the playing call with some quick throws to punish the blitz it will do wonders for both Ivey throwing and the run game. If they are bringing pressure we can’t have everyone running deeper routes which is what the play calls with Ivey seem like they were prior to Tulsa.
I’ll be interested to see if the suspensions result in better behavior. The next step should be being kicked off the team.
Run an end around once in a while please.
I’d also like to see us not start EVERY drive with a run into the middle of the line. Someone needs to go look at every drive this season as it’s almost always that play ot seems. Passed that it seems like at least 80% of the time we start off a fresh set of downs with a run into the middle.
That someone so far has been the opposing team’s coach based on the results of that play.
