Mr. B, do you know who is pitching for us this week?

We are doing our show live from the Hayes on Thursday night with Coach Woodard. We will find out for sure then…maybe.

The game notes should be out before that though. I’m guessing we will see lots of arms in the 4 games this early in the season.

If still available… I’d love to have them.

Here’s a look at the pitching staff:

Forgot that former 49er Casey Bargo ended up at Ball State.

Thanks Mr. Bo! On paper, a significant improvement of our pitching staff over last season. That starting rotation looks really strong. Especially looking forward to seeing Evans pitch. Excited for this season!

I saw Langhorne pitch for the first time last weekend and he was impressive. He was going up against our “A squad” and put up zeros for 3 or 4 innings.

Overall, I’m excited about the pitching staff. Sounds like our returning hitters have noticed a big improvement too. I trust what those guys are saying since they’ve had to face them over an over this fall and spring.

That was another great and thorough preview. Thanks!

Ball State is the only program in our Top 100 that has not made a regional in the last decade — in fact, it hasn’t played in the NCAA tournament since 2006. But the Cardinals have nonetheless re-established themselves as one of the top programs in the Mid-American Conference since Rich Maloney returned in 2013 for his second tour as head coach. In the nine completed seasons of Maloney’s second run in Muncie, Ball State has topped 30 wins every year, and it has racked up gaudy win totals in conference the last three seasons, going 20-5 in 2019, 29-11 in 2021 and 32-7 in 2022. The program punches above its weight when it comes to player development, churns out high-end talent regularly, including four players drafted inside the top five rounds since 2019, along with a 10th-rounder. All that’s left is for Ball State to follow up its regular-season excellence with peak performance when it matters most: in the MAC tournament. — Aaron Fitt
