2024-25 49er MBB post-season poll: Fire Fearne?

Graduation rates for athletes are typically greater than that of the general student population at many schools, so it is what it is.

Anyway, failure to meet APR benchmarks will initially trigger loss of scholarships and can result in postseason bans if not corrected. In addition, reduction of weekly practice time can be imposed as well.

BTW, the NCAA did pause APR penalties due to the pandemic but reinstated them in 2023.

In the P4 do scholarships even matter anymore??

Do you think P4 will listen to the NCAA or NCAA will just look other way. Can not see Bruce Pearl being concerned with it.

Pearl has actually been quite boastful when talking about graduating his players, including star player Johni Broome, who got his degree in December.

Oh I am sure he and the University push a vigorous course load.

Just can’t see the P4 worried about anything the NCAA has to say now. G5. Different story.

Well, thanks for being our Auburn expert.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. That’s half of the teeth the NCAA had. If these kids are being paid to play why would they care about a scholarship?

Haven’t heard anything about being able to play if not on scholarship - pay or no pay.

And those Congressional hearings last week were all about the NCAA - with the P4 leading the way - seeking an antitrust exemption written into law so as to preserve the “sanctity” of college sports, albeit one that now includes rev share etc.

I don’t mean to sound glib, but that’s what a walkon has been for ages. Or a partial scholarship player. And then most recently Poggi definitely had some players that were “paying their own way”…

It’s been going on for a while.

I think the NCAA has lost its ability to police via scholarships. They can try various bans, but we already have football players opting out of bowls, so not sure how well that will work.

I Believe “The Carolina Way” showed how much concern P4 has for the NCAA.

Yes, you’re definitely right about that. What I should have said is one has to be enrolled to participate in athletics.

Anyway, scandals at Chapel Hill are nothing new. Ironic that Dean Smith became coach because of the one involving his predecessor.

Actually adding more enforcement at the behest of the P4:

Your welcome. Anytime. Pretty simple actually.
The guy you are touting just said " pussies" on National TV broadcast. Sports and academic excellence go hand and hand at Auburn University.

Hey, I’m no Pearl fan and he’s been saying a lot of things recently with much of it not related to basketball or sports at all.

Anyway, just know that when actually talking hoops, he’ll mention Auburn graduating players, especially those getting their master’s degrees.

The welcome belongs to us?

Not related, but we kicked Pearl’s ass with one of our post Lutz losing teams!

Because it’s money out of their pocket.

25-80K depending on the college.

Thats going to be a big chunk of their NIL.

Just offset it with cash.

No just being polite for Runs thank you but hey if you want to join the dance I will be your Huckleberry.

If we spent over $100k for this years roster we severely over paid. We need to learn from last years mistakes and do much better in the portal. I hope we replace at least one assistant position and make changes to the system for next year. That’s probably not likely but something needs to change. This pack line defense and Princeton offense system is a dying breed and needs to be replaced or at least tweaked. I’m not sure if Fearne ran it in Australia. If he did something different there he needs to go back to it and try it here. This mess ain’t working.
