Entire āField of 68 After Darkā podcast with Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman plus guest Jeff Borzello about the coaching carousel - hot seats, seats getting warm, etc.
Again, Penny Hardaway mentioned as someone who needs to make NCAAT at a minimum to keep his job. If there is a change made at Memphis, belief that Tigers go after Will Wade.
Goodman said Temple could have hired one time Owlsā assistant and current Colgate HC Matt Langel but didnāt handle things well when replacing Aaron McKie in 2023.
Another AAC mention concerned UAB if AK should depart - Blazers would have to look no further than Birmingham suburb Homewood to find Bucky McMillan of Samford.
Finally, none thought Sanchez will be coach at UVA after this season, with Ryan Odom most likely to be tabbed by the Cavs, especially if VCU lives up to expectations.
Something of a surprise looking at entire tenure. Awful start to year, though Cajuns did beat App State last night in Lafayette. #340 in the NET (worst of the 12 Bayou State D-I schools) and just 2-9 vs D-I.
As Miller says, has to be more to this. Marlin closing in on 500 career wins with 494 as of today. Took Louisiana to 2023 NCAAT as Sun Belt tourney champs. Also see that Cajuns lost a key player to injury just before this season began.
Thanks for the correction. And returned to the NCAAT twice more while still at GMU.
FWIW, I donāt fault LarraƱaga for leaving George Mason for Miami-FL. Another FF run was highly unlikely with the Pats and he gave them a generous 15 years.
Followed that with a pretty decent tenure in Coral Gables but probably time to hang it up. Was always going to be pretty much an afterthought in a city where major league sports are king. Been a very long time since hoops great Rick Barry - a one time NBA teammate of Jeff Mullins - laced them up for UM.
BTW, all this has reminded me that LarraƱaga got his coaching start in Mecklenburg County as an assistant at Davidson under Terry Holland, who too would eventually make the jump to the ACC at Virginia.
For the record it was actually Bill Foster - the Niners first D-I coach - who led the Hurricanes after the Miami-FL menās basketball program was reinstated in 1985 after being shut down in 1971.
With Miami-FL and UVA, thatās three openings in the ACC. Some talking heads are mentioning UNC-CH too but would think Davis gets at least one more year.
And speaking of Tar Heels, I think Wes Miller is done at Cincy barring a run to a Big XII title etc similar to what Kevin Keatts did last year to save his job.
