I figured Purdie would go to Florida and redshirt.
Or he knew he was a backup and was going to bide his time.
If he wanted to start ANYONE with half a brain would have known heās not the presumptive starter at FL.

He originally went to Cincy so heās not an original Albin guy. May have the new mindset of needing to always go to a new school lol
Gotcha. Thought he would be solid despite his size but its all good. Glad to hear the bootle is a player
Correct. Doggette was at Cincy for two years, but didnāt play (1 tackle). Before Cincy, he was at Pickerington Central. When he arrived Ohio as a Redshirt Sophomore, there were two other DTs on the team who were true Sophomores (Kobi Gorman and Gino Williams) and a true Freshman (RJ Keuchler), that had also played at Pickerington Central. What are the odds of one team having 4 DT from the same high school? It didnāt last long though, as Gorman (a returning starter) and WIlliams left the team for unexplained reasons.
Doggette was officially the starter at Ohio, but Cam Rice got about half the time, and their stats were nearly identical. I have no inside knowledge about why he left, or what his goals are, sorry. At this point he seems like someone who wonāt be anywhere for long. Maybe he just wants to see life outside of Ohio?
As for Doggetteās size, Ohio didnāt use a traditional NT, but relied on the DTs being active. That was probably related to the personnel that they had - they adapted the defense to fit what the players could do. The Charlotte roster seem to have a lot of depth at DT, including some good size, do the defense at Charlotte may be different. Because of the depth, Iām not worried about getting portal transfers there. I wish Doggette well in his future endeavors.
I wonder if this ESPN article today had anything to do with it. Had him as the 19th ranked transfer portal QB but last paragraph laid it out.
Strong pull TSD, but have to ask why it would take something like this to get through to him.
Good question. But remember heās an 18 year old and The Swamp must feel like pretty tall cotton! When you (any reader here) and I were 18, we thought we were invincible! I wish I still had some of the āpep-notesā I wrote myself before ballgames. (Well, not really!).
Would you take Purdie back?
Do you think taking Purdie back would be a bad move? For example setting a bad tone you can leave the team transfer and come back without finishing the season with your new team, cause discord with the current players, cause one of more of our current QBs to transfer out, etc.?
Great question but probably hard to understand the bubble these athletes live in with the handlers and family involved until they step on campus. Canāt imagine how " dirty" and corrupt this game is now. Hell you have kids trying to walk out before games because they have not been paid their " promised" NIL money. If you are going to lie about money then playing time is an easy lie that has been used fir decades.
At some point, the door back has to close. Players need to understand that if they choose to go into the portal, they must face the fact that their future lies elsewhere. Itās not about āthis is a good player, and we want him backā so much as it is about āthese other players are committed to Charlotte 100%, and itās not fair to themā. If a player comes back to the coaches and says āI made a big mistake, and Iām sorry, and I want to apologize to both you and the teamā, then I guess the coaches can decide how sincere he is.
It royally pisses me off, but this is so sad for so many kids! And they are KIDS! Most HS athletes have been screwed!
Here! Here!
If enough āstarsā are told they canāt come back, those remaining might think twice before leaving! IMHO, this should become a part of the āCultureā!!
As an example of a situation where a player was allowed to return, consider the case of Sieh Bangura, an Ohio running back. He was all-MAC in 2022 with 1078 yards, then after a worse season in 2023, he jumped into the portal, ending up at Minnesota, where he was the #3 running back. On the year, he got 4 carries for 12 yards. Meanwhile, from a distance, he got to watch the running back that Ohio replaced him with from the portal run for 1215 yards. He made it known that he wanted to come back, and this year he transferred back to Ohio. If Purdie spends 2025 as a backup at Florida, and then wants to return, I think that would be totally OK, but for him to come back right now just doesnāt feel right to me. He committed to Florida, and I think he should be a man of his word, and give them the year that he committed to.
I disagree. As long as there is a āmulliganā mentality, this is going to continue, and intensify! There needs to be an overlay on all this, every institution, that says , āYou leave usā¦'rotsa ruck!ā And for that to happenā¦I say, ārotsa ruck!ā
Is someone else throwing more money at him or promising him the starting job? I am not buying he did not know he would be the backup.
Not at all sure re the money, but my understanding is that Purdie would probably have been the 4th QB. Two other hotshot FR QBs,
We have to do what is in our best interest to win and is within the rules. If bringing back Purdy is favorable to our program and it is within the rules then do it.
Like it or not, itās all about wins and losses and our program has too many disadvantages already.
Not sure he would start over Loftis or Harrell
Changing the subject matter, so far, I count 13 players from Charlotte that have moved to the P4 (Myers, Blake, Wilkins, Stanley, Spasojevic-Moko, Weber, Purdie, Clowney, Balfour, McDaniel, Cunanan, Rusnak, and Booker). Of those, how many do people think will become stars in P4? How many will become starters? How many will play minor roles as backups?
I ask this because I feel like Iām watching an instant replay of last year at Ohio, both in terms of the numbers of players leaving, and in the sources for their replacements. Last year, 12 players from Ohio moved up to P4. Of those, one became a star, that being Rourke at Indiana. Of the rest, all played some, except for one who had a pre-season knee injury. A couple started a few games, but most were 2d or third string players. Not all of them were one-and-done, so more of them may be starters next year.
As for the instant replay on the other side, players taken from the portal, Albin is getting replacements from exactly the same places. That isnāt surprising, since it worked. In descending order of success rate, the sources of players for Albin last year were:
Div 2: LYR 3 players, all OL, all good. 1 star plus 2 steady backups; For Charlotte to date 1 OL
FCS: LYR 6 players, 5 good. Four starters (2 stars) plus a backup; For Charlotte, 7 players
P4: LYR 7 players, 5 good. Three starters (1 star) plus 2 backups; For Charlotte, 4 players
G5: LYR 5 players, 1 starter, 2 good backups; For Charlotte, 5 players
JUCO: LYR 7 players, no starters, 3 good backups; For Charlotte 6 players
Note that the pattern this year was also the same. The Division 2 and FCS players mostly came early, and the P4 players all came late. This year I expect to see more late additions. Due to the lack of much of a Freshman class (at least there is 1 now!), there is room for more players from the portal. I suspect FCS and Division 2 are mostly picked over now, so most of the players we will see going forward will be G5 and P4 players who having found homes yet.
