The biggest factor in this game was their ability to not just convert on their 3rd downs, but convert on VERY LONG third downs. That doesnât change the outcome, but would had made this game even closer.
One aspect that sometimes gets lost is that we had ZERO turnovers. Let me say that again, ZERO turnovers. Based on past results, I was damn impressed with knowing that we were down key pieces; lost our QB and others during the game; went to a 17 year old back up; playing on the road; and in this type of environment and pressure cooker. I was expecting them to dominate the turnover battle.
Outside of some boneheaded run calls on the goal line and the fact that we, again, were down many key pieces before we lost players during the game, we showed that we belonged and wasnât a pushover. The fact that they ran that one trick play tells me that they were a little concerned to start looking into the trick bag.
Just hope that all of these injuries donât make the GW game a nail bitter. This fan base and students need to have an enjoyable win at home while also having it be a no contest from start to finish.
We are a chaotic, undisciplined team with a very low FB IQ. Example 999. How Stokes breaks to the inside with all the traffic when he has the 1st down 3 yards in front of him is really amazing. Not a lot of natural FB instincts shown by a lot of our players.
Some of the undisciplined stuff gives off a Bad News Bears vibe. At this point I donât think Biff cares or is concerned with it. The freshman with the bush league head butt then the double down on it when the player is on the ground is a classic. Pushing one of their players in the back to run into one of our players drawing a 15 yard penalty is another never worked ever even in the WWE classic move.
In the red zone at the 10 yard line or less on 1st or 2nd down we could fake the mandatory Dive right or left and let QB bootleg and have enough time and room for Hootie to push me in a wheel chair around the outside for a score.
3rd down on both sides of the ball is still a 14 game Biff scheme problem.
I think we had 2 injuries jogging to the tunnel at halftime.
I hope we are better but I am starting to wonder if I have watched such bad FB from this team that a normal series looks amazing like we have turned the corner.
Glad Mike Hill got to greet Mack Brown on the field after the game and introduce everyone that needed that validation.
Is either Chapel Hill or JMU an above average FB team? I know what we are.
Environment and pressure cooker? Its carolina
At least we arenât App State. They got punked in the first quarter by 35 and lost by 46 even though Clemson had their water boys playing in the second half.
Iâll disagree here - in that, I think this was a very big deal. The two deciding factors in this game were:
-
their ability to convert long and clutch 3rd downs
-
our inability to score in 1st and goal situations
That was basically ballgame right there. That and our key injuries.
Watching the broadcast. Announcers:
âCharlotte fans are cheering âLets Go Charlotte!ââŠâ ![]()

ââŠat some point, Charlotte has to start thinking about throwing a screen pass.â Said in quarter #1âŠ
We didnât run a screen until the end of the game, and we scored a TD when we did. smdh.
Donât disagree with bullet 2. Those opportunities were both crucial and painful to watch.
Not mad about this game, wish we could have punched it in on both red zone drives early. Zero turnovers, offense looked much stonger. UNC had more athletes and was coached a little better.
On to next week. Hopefully the offense comes out with itâs hair on fire again and the defense can make the jump back to being our stronger unit.
Ray Gromolowicz and the lady with him in the photo above sat beside of me and my wife at the JMU game. Had no idea who he was, I just knew he was tall. When I saw this tweet I knew I had seen him somewhere recently. Finaly after showing this picture to my wife we figured it out. Had no idea he was a former Niner basketball player.
Jack and Ray hang out at the Normbulance a few times each year!
Those of us who were around to see Ray play remember after one of his better games, someone gave him the nickname of AIR GROM. Any of you other old timers remember AIR GROM?
I used to sit with him in the Mine Shaft watching the girls games and chat about his days with MJ.
