I’m curious what that even looks like. I see no sponsorship info on the championship logo, except that it’s at the dickies arena, no sponsorship on the championship web page, not even the fan zone agenda. No “Modelo Special Beer garden” just beer garden.
I won’t claim to know how it all works but this doesn’t seem to be exactly a sponsor laden event.
If sponsorships are the gatekeeper it’d be nice to know what kind of dollars we are talking bc Charlotte is also a great place to host it.
Also, our arena here is owned by the government, not a private party. That should help.
I dont know anything about AAC tournament but I know the reason we never got CUSA tournament here was the tournament needed a primary sponsor and Judy and co said they didnt see the appetite here to sponsor it. I am sure that is primarily around enough sponsors to offset rental of the venue. I wonder what the rental is for Spectrum - I think the hornets control all of that. Playing at Bojangles would be cheaper and could be cool given our history there and very good record. Lose the uptown feel and food/drink though so not sure thats an option.
Earlier on Saturday, OwlsDaily confirmed with an AAC official that the league has renewed its deal with Dickies Arena for both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments to be played there for the next four seasons – through 2025-26 – with a league option to extend the deal further down the road.
Would definitly be more interested in going to a destination place for this tournament.
New Orleans, Tampa, anywhere South Florida would at least be a destination spot in March.
Got to say, it’s a bit stressful and confusing having to wait to play and watch other games. I am used to either not being in the tourney or out on day one.
