Whatâs a CFI?
Charlotte football initiative.
Basically students and alums forced the admins hand.
Judy and Phil were anti football until the group caused so muchattention around the issue that they relented and gave Judy the credit lol
Iâm convinced we would have a medicsl school, law school, etc if we had the similar support and initiatives. I still think we have a long shot opportunity if we drive for it like we did football.
The beginningsâŚ
It seems like the kind of thing maybe the board should âenshrineâ. Basically a thread where we compile the history of CFI. Like NWA said, it is a fantastic grass roots story and the kind of collective effort the University should have built off of. Itâs a real shame that the story isnât common knowledge, at least for our dedicated fans. And NNN would be hard pressed to have a bigger real-world impact on the University (unless the name change happens ).
Itâs a success story for grass roots efforts, and itâs also a great success story for message boards in general. A lot of us remember it the same. That thread is the thread that ultimately led us to CFI. Without CFI, there are no FSLs or football program at all. Without NNN, there is no CFI. Itâs still amazing to me how many names I can read in that thread and I met that user in person. We werenât just anons on a message board bitching about our team. We were alumni & students of a university who all came together very professionally and achieved a massive goal that untold people said was impossible. We made âfantasyâ a reality despite the people calling it âfantasyâ.
Itâs amazing to me how much effort the previous leadership took focusing on all the reasons why we should not.
The difference between success and failure often comes down to what you are looking for. The quote below says a lot. âThe Charlotte business community is not currently pushing for this.â Why would they? Our university needs to promote our product and give the community a reason to care and get involved.
We continue to be too complacent!
The biggest difference is with football we controlled the financial aspects of it. The only thing we needed at the state level was permission to increase fee, which onceâs the student vote happened they couldnât necessarily block in good faith.
With the official name change (which is not nearly as universally desired as it appears in here) or med or law programs - those take additional votes and gates at the state level and in the case of new programs a large amount of funding. Hard for a grass roots campaign to effect that at the level we did football.
Any recruiting/portal news?
If we lose that game, you have my permission to burn it all down.
Think we would have any interest in this Spencer, North Carolina kid returning home from Colorado? Tim Brewster must know him from when he was at Colorado. Heâs in the portal. He could add to our small QB room. He did just make news by saying Shaddeur Sanders is selfish with his NIL money.
I doubt we want to add another qb, since we just added one.
Is he supposed to share it with everyone on the team? Lol.
NIL is going to destroy locker rooms.
Itâs probably going to destroy college athletics.
Wonât be any worse than losing to NC A&T
Or getting run over by William and Mary two years ago. I liked Healy but I do not miss his football coaching.
Legend has is that on full moons you can still see Healyâs ghost jumping up and down clapping on Jerry Richardson field.
I know him, he is bad. I would hope for someone with more experience if we added another QB. Ivey is the only QB we have with much in game experience at all.
Yes, we did add another QB from a really bad FCS team and he barely has any playing time. We need another scholarship level QB in the room. We have 2 in Max BrownâŚshould be solid but even he had little playing experience and Deshawn Purdie who looks very promising. Trexler Ivey isnât a scholarship level player.
We probably arent going to get another quality wr in this portal cycle. Nobody wants to come in to be 3rd string at best. Washington appears developmental but with athletic ability
