Fired him for making the NIT?

Yeah, that one seems like there were deeper issues going on. 20 win season in AAC in year 2 after 11 wins in year 1.

Great story!

That he would walk away from his contract at FAU was to be expected. Another thing to be expected is that he will face exponentially more pressure along with the added money.

Interesting, but here is a Stat for you, we haven’t lost a HC to a higher level conference in the major sports Football/Basketball in 26 yrs…. And it doesnt look like it could happen anytime soon.

We just lost Ron Sanchez to Virginia, but that was a good thing.

KYLE CHURCH

Another possible candidate if Florida Atlantic was to stay in-house is assistant coach Kyle Church, 35.

Church worked alongside May for almost a decade, serving as assistant coach at Florida Atlantic since 2018 after working as director of basketball operations alongside May as an assistant at Florida and Louisiana Tech.

At Florida Atlantic, Church was a part of both NCAA tournament appearances, the trip to the Final Four and was one of several assistants tasked with designing scouting reports.

Though he doesn’t boast any head coaching experience, Church’s close ties to May make him a name to keep an eye on. Church’s familiarity with the culture and personnel May is leaving behind could provide some stability during a transition period that is destined to have turnover.
