Malone was fired last year and has been working as an ESPN analyst this season.
And Niners didnāt mention anything about Miller being fired in any of the PR about our new coach.

The fact remains, he was fired and is out of work as a pro coach. He has not coached in college since 2001 when He was an assistant. Also he is carolinaās last resort after multiple coaches turned them down.Didnāt mean to get your panties in a bunch about Carolina,.

Really want this to be my last post on this particular coaching search. Much more concerned with building out our staff.
Agree, wholeheartedly
Malone was fired two years after winning a NBA championship in game 79 of the season while having a record of 47-32. Context of his firing does matter.
Why was he fired? Just curious, I donāt keep up with the NBA much anymore.
Personality conflict with GM, among other things.
Ironically, a reason why Lloyd considered leaving Arizona. Wildcats restructured his contract so that he no longer answers to the AD.
GM ended up fired at the same time as well because of the conflict.
This is not a good hire for UNC.
The fact they could not pull a quality head college coach from somewhere should be very concerning to the Tarheel faithful.
He may turn out to be great but itās certainly not the āsure thingā they were after.
Malone will be fine. As a long suffering Denver Nuggets fan going all the way back to the ABA, he finally delivered a championship. So Iāll be going from a decade of hoping heād win everything to not. Basically the opposite of learning to love ex-Heel George Karl during his tenure in the Mile High City that preceded Malone.
Michael Malone NBA regular season record as head coach
With Nikola Jokic: 449-293 (.605)
Without Nikola Jokic: 61-101 (.377)
North Carolina taking another big risk with a hire.
Per Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina.
According to sources close to the situation, Michael Malone has conveyed an intent to keep assistants Sean May and Pat Sullivan and director of operations Eric Hoots on staff. These positions havenāt all been accepted yet, but thatās the aim.
There are no sure things
What a roll of the dice!
That much money for someone who has never been a college head coach.
I wonder if this decision was made by the same people that brought in Belichick?

Think you meant to say someone who has never been a college head coach. Served as an assistant at Manhattan, Oakland, and Providence before landing in NBA.
BTW, former UNC-CH BOT chair John Preyer resigned from the board in January, so no role in Malone hire.
I think North Carolina needs to hire you as their PR person. You defend them more than their PR staff.
Yes no college head coaching experience.
I stand on the statement this was a poor hire by UNC and that their inability to land an experienced college head coach is a bad sign for the health of their program.
They are paying top dollar for a man who has no college head coaching experience and has not been in the college game for 21 years.
Itās ridiculous.
