2025-26 Niners Basketball šŸ€

Unfortunately with little exception we are consistent. Consistently bad. Success is an outlier.

Yeah fair point. I still like Fearne, his kid graduated from here and is a Graduate Assistant with the team right now. I know Fearne is committed to staying here and that’s all I can hope for from a coach who I feel understands the game of basketball quite well

Agreed. I like Fearne. I feel like both Albin and Fearne have character instead of being a character like some prior coaches. Truly hope both of them find their way for themselves as well as Charlotte.

I dont even know how to judge a coach now.

It used to be if you couldn’t get talent and recruit that was on the coach and staff. Now though? Not sure. If the money isn’t there to buy good enough players the coach can only do so much.

HIs point was that ā€œamong college sports fansā€, lots dont know we are D1……the point has now been turned into something else………..I will never argue that some people are terribly uninformed about the school itself though, which is exactly what you are describing.

I also like fearne a lot but not sure how you can say he gets a lot out of very little. Went 19-12 against a weak schedule 2 years ago and now a bad loss to an inferior davidson team, despite bringing in one of the top ā€œmid majorā€ classes

But no way this a ā€˜top’ incoming class, haven’t seen that so far. Maybe if Manding comes in and is all conference caliber but from what we have seen so far, it is not a ā€˜top’ mid major class.

We signed a solid class but nothing special according to 247. I think they’re better than the rating but not that much better.

They don’t evaluate most prospects so I wouldn’t take too much from that. This class got a lot of positive feedback from recruiting people.

FWIW, that 247 list doesn’t include all of the freshmen, nor transfers Elliot and Harrison.

I’m basing it off the preseason projection that year which had us at 2nd to last I believe. Then we finished 3rd.

He is also an NBL coach of the year. I can’t say he doesn’t know ball. He’s probably better with cohesiveness year-over-year but aren’t we all

OOC GAMES OF INTEREST 11/13

Cornell 97
:basketball: Lafayette 78

Washington Adventist (NAIA) 83
:basketball: NC A&T 89

Berea (D3) 64
:basketball: Tennessee Tech 86

BTW, Berea College in Kentucky was the undergraduate alma mater of UNCC’s first chancellor, Dean W. Colvard.

Bonke so far is really good we will see with Mandang soon, hopefully he makes this class look really good!!….so far rest of the class looks mid and not interested in the defensive side of the game.

The concern about Fearne wouldn’t be his coaching it would be talent eval & recruiting as his last years recruiting class/first class was not good. The company/admin line was portal issues and injuries but that obfuscation of our problems did not hold up well.

I actually don’t think the defense has been that bad. Davidson hit a bunch of contested 3s. We lost that game because our shots weren’t falling in the first half. This team has talent it’s just taking a little while to come together. That’s the sorry state of college basketball these days - not enough carryover from year to year so you’re throwing a team onto the court that hasn’t played together.

Fearne has to be coaching for his job, particularly with a new AD coming in. It’s win or else at this point, so we’ll get the best he has to offer this year. Whether or not that’s enough remains to be seen.

I agree. Most of tge 3s they hit were well contested. Offense and fts let us down

Be nice to have a good showing tonight. Gotta hit the gimmes and FTs. That cost us double digits and a W. Getting beat is one thing, handing a W over on a platter is a much worse feeling. At least to me.

Tonight? I thought we play VT Sunday?

Our defense wasn’t horrible against Davidson; it just lacked full intensity which we badly needed when our shots weren’t falling.

Again my biggest concern was how Fearne didn’t make any real changes that I could see to what we were doing on offense.

Yup, as I mentioned before, I like Fearne but didn’t think it was his best coaching. Offense was not good, a lot of standing around.

I am hoping it’s not a sign of issues we’re going to have all year. The free throw problems have me concerned as much as the offense.

Totally agree. This loss is still sticking with me. Last year losses didn’t hurt much bc we were so bad, but now that I expect to win, it’s hard to stomach. We had no business losing the othernight

I’d argue this is still better than going in to every game expecting a loss
