Mid to late summer I think

We have been through this so many times since we let go of Bobby, is anyone really surprised??, the entire team is gone… just hope Miller brings in good basketball players to replace them. That’s why we hired him.

We’ve had players leave for as long as I can remember and well before Lutz was coach.

Always wondered what happened to Clinton Hinton. 1985 Sun Belt ROY, then transferred to Oral Roberts. Pretty much fell off the face of the Earth after making the move to ORU.

That post is overselling him.

I like Bonke but he’s not a dominant big man in the AAC much less the P4.

He needs PT. I saw notable improvement late in the year but he’s not gonna get the reps. He’s gonna be on the bench a lot.

You missed my point… we fired Lutz, entire team left, we fired Major, entire team left, we fired price entire team left, really only when we “kept” Fearne did the entire team not leave… so the entire team is going to leave… it’s obvious….

that is not unique to Charlotte or any other program, especially with the wild Wild West portal and NIL.

The entire team did not leave when Lutz was fired. Ditto when Major “left” or when Price + Fancher were dismissed.

Judy infamously blocked transfers when lutz was fired.

Yep, things have changed a lot as relates to transfsters, retention, etc. Used to be players couldn’t transfer to another school within the same conference or if they did would be “required” to sit out 2 years instead of one. IIRC, the SoCon is the only one that still bans intra-conference movement. Plus coaches could and would veto transfers to a specific OOC school on a whim - local and\or in state rival, etc.

Then you have the main reason why most scholarships are year-to-year instead of multi-year - so a coach can revoke, cancel etc said scholarship if he so wishes. That’s still a thing (see Deion Sanders) and something Lutz was known for doing. And it’s what Miller did with Jizzle James this season until he had a “change of heart” and reinstated the team’s 2024-25 leading scorer after a slow 5-4 start that included a Q4 home loss to OOC Eastern Michigan.

Of course, one the craziest thing about transfers was when I lrealized the old sit out a year rule only applied to football, men and women’s basketball, baseball, and men’s hockey. Just assumed it was across the board for all NCAA sponsored sports.

Anyway, definitely crazy stuff!

need to install contracts to lock in players for a couple years. Also need to limit transfers to one time. For example.Bonke will be leaving for his fourth school.

Players should be required to sign 2 year contracts with incentives and only voidable for going pro or “retiring “ from the sport. Players requesting release or transfer should only be granted by requiring the new school to reimburse the former at 150% of paid NIL value. That will stop the frequent jumping (transfer every year players) and make the poaching school really hit the wallet to steal players as they will have to payoff the old school and still pay the player.

To get that level of control over the market there will have to be collective bargaining.

Correct. Until that can get worked out, I don’t expect much to change.
