I would love to see the next direction of the athletic programs emphasize winning back the thousands of fans we have run off over the years.
I also think we should emphasize selling tickets at a price we will sell out.
I know we need money. But if we grow the fan base, money will come. Our fans need a reason to want to be in the stadium. It is louder in the stadium when it is full. Loud stadiums can win games. Just really tired of the prices going up and the wins never coming. Really difficult to be a fan of this program. Very little long term vision in my opinion.
Well, the one option i remember was when Harrell held the ball too long and then flipped to the tailback with a,defender ready to lay him out and he didā¦ā¦and he fumbled it away on 1st and goal.
I didnāt wish to be right, but I expected tonight to go this way. I donāt dislike our team. I saw some really good players out there. Hopefully they improve. A good college football coach should make them better. Probably not enough to win, but that is because of guys named Mike, Biff and Will. The guys on the field tonight, I was actually impressed with much our team talent.
We donāt get the call up to the Big East over crappy DePaul and we donāt have football so we had to move to the Atlantic 10.
Before that we had been on a steady and slow rise.
After that itās been a slow diminution of our athletic program.
The only thing good thatās happened since then is that we actually finally got football thanks to the grass roots campaign of dedicated fans, many on this board
I remember that time in 2005 like it was yesterday and it still hurts.
If we had football well established by 2005 we could have stuck with our original long time conference mates and been in the American.
Best case scenario we could be UCF.
Worse case scenario we are probably a respectable football program like Tulane or USF.
I get so pissed off thinking about this.
Why our prior leaders (go way back) were such simps they couldnāt start a football program it just boggles my mind.
And donāt give me any crap about not being able to afford it. If Western and App and A&T and NC Central and the numerous small private schools in the state could afford to start programs we could have done so.
The lack of vision by our leaders in the past caused this. Plain and simple.
I know the numbers wonāt tell the whole picture, but I thought our secondary was really dang good for most of the game. Bootle, Baldwin, Cary Grant and JQ Conley looked great out there. Edwards, Curtain and Shipman also looked solid when their numbers were called upon. Tre Bell and Bryan Nardo seem to be onto something.
I donāt see a need to pile on more here. Itās an obvious building year with a new coach and staff. Our schedule isnāt friendly either. Albin is a real coach with success, so outside of losing the Monmouth game Iām going to temper my expectations.
We almost got into halftime down 7-3 then the wheels just fell off. I understand new coach plus tons of new players, but App State was in the same situation. That was an absolute pathetic performance especially the offense we barley threw the ball more than 5 yards down the field. Then the defense geez they just gashed us up the middle and our zone defense had more holes in it than swiss cheese. Iād rather of seen more man to man than zone there guys wide open so many times. Sadly the player of the game for us was our punter who was a beast. Iāll be at the game next week hope weāre more competitive.
Embarrassing night on all fronts. Dominated on the field and in the stands. We played them much better in the two games in Boone. I hope no future recruits were watching this. We looked like a bad FCS team. Hopefully we can show signs of progress over the course of the season but tonight was awful.
