We have to figure out who we can count on out of the pen. 8th inning was brutal.
I can’t believe we gave Correa a ball over the plate to hit. I saw him chase breaking balls that ended up in the LH batter’s box 6,349 times last season, also saw him do it about 8 times tonight. We put it over the plate on 0-2 pitch and he destroys it.
Also, we should probably expect a little more than 4 runs off of App’s mid-week guys. Thad is still on fire and Gunderson had a big night but that was it.
Hopefully we can put this behind us and beat the 
out of Davidson tomorrow.

clt says we need to quit playing lower level teams like appy and davidson. yes, they are local, but even a win hurts our rpi. let’s play campbell, they are normally a good team
aac commish is pushing for better mbb scheduling, we need to do the same in baseball.
…and we better beat App like a drum next week.

One of the things I like about Coach Woodard is the challenging schedules he puts together. It teaches them that they can’t take a night, or an inning, or a pitch off.
App is a lower half sun belt team, which is a great league. I expect them to finish very similarly to JMU and ODU. As much as I hate that happened the way it did, and against one of the worst teams we’ve played, we learned something that will make us better moving forward. Baseball is a weird game, but we went to some arms that didn’t get the job done last night. App is well coached, and they have some guys that had a little extra motivation.
Onward and upward. Consistently playing the way we are capable for 9 innings should be the goal for this team.

As much as losing a midweek to a garbage program like theirs sucks, there are a few positives to take note of:

I got to leave Boone. I’m still trying to get the smell of patchouli out of my nostrils.

Wesley Jones has looked really good. 3 hitless innings. I’m good with him gaining experience as the weekday guy. Could be a factor in next year’s rotation.

Cody Gunderson is what they said he would be. The man is a complete hitter. I was skeptical about him playing first, but he’s making the plays over there.

Thad is back. This is what he flashed last season. Hope he keeps it going. He deserves it.

Szturma looked good last night. He probably goes a little longer if he had a bigger lead to work with. I could see him becoming a solid piece during the middle innings.
Finally, they come down the mountain next Tuesday and our students are back. Y’all know what to do.

Hibbs refused to play up there due to them not having lights. But when we throw our weight around about an opponent being inferior (and they definitely were at that time) we have to back it up on the field.

Another positive, Stanton came in and got outs when we desperately needed them. His appearance vs JMU wasn’t great this weekend, but he came in last night and got 3 outs in the 8th.

Looking to the weekend, UNCW took #4 Chapel Hill to extras last night in Wilmington. Gave up 4 unearned runs in the 10th.
