Good guys won 5-2, put up 4 runs in the 7th coming from behind
Lost game 3, 6-4. This team has GOT to develop some clutch hitters. We got absolutely nothing done the last 4 innings, including the last 4 batters/outs for us all were struck out by a guy who came in with a 7.36 era.
Woodward underachieves. There, I said it.
We are always lacking consistency in our pitching. And Baseball is won with pitching. I have never been impressed with his coaching ability. Hibbs was so much better and did more with less.
So now I have skewered the sacred cow and I shall bear the brunt of the animosity, but bottomline is we need a better coach.
I was hoping to be 6-2 after this 8 game stretch, but we ended up 5-3. These 8 games in 10 days were a good test to see where we are heading into AAC play.
I thought we pitched well enough to win the series today. Defense was good too. I don’t think we hit up to our potential this weekend. We switched the line-up around every game but I still think we are searching for the right combo.
Interesting take.
All you need to do is look at both coaches records, number of regular season titles, & tournament titles during their CUSA years to see if anyone is under achieving.
ESPN only shows ranked teams or power conferences scores
Wins- Hibbs 54% Woody 56%
Conference tourney championships - Hibbs 4 in 27 seasons 15% Woody 1 in 4 season 25%
NCAA Tourneys - Hibbs 5 in 27 seasons 19% Woody 2 in 4 season 50%
Oh and pro niners
Hibbs - 30 in 27 years highest is 1 in 3rd, 2 in 6th and 2 in 7th average 1.1 per year
Woody - 11 in 4 years average 2.75 highest is 4 in 4th, 1 in 5th
clt asks if we need a poll
- yes
- no
We have enough pitching to win games. In fact, I think this is the most balanced pitching staff we have had since this coaching staff arrived. We have to get the offense going. Empty ABs and runners LOB are costing us.
As far as comparing Hibbs and Woody, I don’t see a point. They worked for different ADs (yes, I realize there was a small overlap), competed in different leagues, and operated in different eras (portal, NIL, etc.) IMO, they have both done good things for the program.
