Ah ok. Thanks!
Harrell had turned into a very good QB. Now, can Loftis or Wilcke turn into one? ![]()
| This was my worst fear when he wen downā¦. |

Harrell was a serviceable QB but not a āvery goodā quarterback. If he was āvery goodā then every team in the country has a āvery goodā QB.
He was turning into a good qb. It seemed he was hitting his stride and possibly turning into very good
He was, dare I say it, developing.
He was improving which made him a serviceable QB. Look at his stats minus the Monmouth game.
I know, Iām saying if he didnāt get hurt, he could have been better than serviceable as the year went on. He made some really good plays the last few games
I was not necessarily supportive of Harrell being named the starter, then I changed my opinion to being critical of how the staff was using him. By the time he went down he had pretty much won me over, but then, as a Niner fan we canāt have nice things, and I rarely realize just how good we had it til itās gone.
The talking heads have him as being in the Heisman race in my CF26 dynasty
. I was also surprised he got the start this year, but CF26 doesnāt lie.
My personal stat of choice is the ESPN QBR rating. I like it because it seems to match what I see. Harrell did not start out well, but improved significantly as the season progressed, and he was playing his best football of the year against Rice, up until he was injured. Harrellās ratings, per ESPN, on a game by game basis were:
App 26.2, UNC 21.0, Monmouth 54.0, Rice 71.0
The top rating in the AAC is Retzlaff of Tulane, at 75.4, followed by Mestemaker of UNT at 70.6. Against Rice, I was impressed with Harrell, and thought he was playing very well. His 71.0 rating would have been good enough to win a lot of games.
So, how is Loftis doing? He has has a very slow start. His ratings have been:
App 0.1, UNC 26.9, Rice 14.7
In 2023, when Loftis played in six games for Duke, his average rating was 62.1. Thatās not bad, and would put him in the middle of the AAC. Hopefully, with him as starter, weāll see the ārealā Loftis, and he will surprise us by being better than serviceable.
We have a thin, limited talent roster that was devastated by injuries.
The biggest favor a rich booster could give us is to free us from having to play body bag games to fund the program.
Albin needs a season with a non conference schedule where going 4-0 is at least feasible. We need to build culture by winning games, and not just cashing checks for public humiliations against top 10 teams.
That will help with recruiting which is where we will really build a program.

This seems like a cool event.
Harrellās improvement was one of the few bright spots this year. I hope Loftis is more effective with two weeks to prepare because he hasnāt fared well as a reliever.
I know as a Niner fan it can always get worse but man weāre putting that saying to the test this season.
This seems to imply that the 105 roster limit is not viable at a basic level.
college isnāt like the pros where there are players on practice squads and free agents keeping themselves in shape for an opportunity to open.
I donāt understand how this is going to work going forward.
We need wins and Loftis may get us a couple but this is going to be a slow build, I fear.
Should we give Wilche a go?
All these out for the season after the 4th game brings out the conspiracy theorist in me.
Super slow build, Albin needs 4 to 5 years. Iād like to see a bowl by 2027 but Iām not getting my hopes up anymore.
I donāt even see program building being a thing anymore. Itās just complete reconstruction every season. Thatās not unique to us, just how it is now.
