Great — I pulled together the worst non–Power-5 (Group of 5 + FBS independents) programs over the last decade using a 2015–2024 window (10 seasons). The ranking below comes from aggregated season results (wins/losses) over that period — source: College Football Every Day’s “Fewest FBS Wins (Since 2015)” summary — I’ve listed the team, their total wins in that span, and the approximate win percentage. If we could back up 13 years and know this was going to be the result, would you still have purchased FSL’s and been All-In with adding football? Not to mention NIL and the demise of the basketball program.

I would have bet-the-farm against this.

Oh BigTime, what have you done? Calling Mr. Green, calling Mr. Mean Joe Green

I would have been all in.

Having football is cool and I enjoy it despite the record.

Oh heck yes! I have had a blast and have only missed 1 game at home since we started football. Tailgating is fantastic.

We simply waited too long for football and then when we got it, jumped too quickly into FBS without learning how to win. We also hired a FCS capable coach to start who could/would not recruit and we refused to think big thereafter.

If it makes you feel any better, Kansas State, for years, was the least winning school in the country, but they turned that around. Ohio, from 1985-2005 was one of the lowest in the country. Iowa State, Oregon, and Northwestern were all awful, but have improved. On the flip side, teams like UCLA and Nebraska have gone the other way. There are a lot of reasons to believe that Charlotte can become a very successful program. If Albin doesn’t end up getting it done, someone else, eventually, will win at Charlotte.

A bowl should not bevthat hard. 6-6. It’s not that hard. Sorry, not necessarily directing that at you, just at the idea that a bowl us a difficult achievement

Yep, just have to be mediocre.

Yes, going to a college football game in the fall is still more enjoyable to me than other live college sporting events.

We’ve only made a bowl 1 out of 10 seasons eligible. Not easy for Charlotte football.

It’s because we make it hard.

The world also changed dramatically on us as a new program in the “group of 5”. The portal and the wild Wild West NIL hurt us. Having 4 coaches in a very short period of time hurt us.

I don’t think nil hurt us more than any otger g5

Jeremy did a great job on Hwy49 Pod this week, Hunter tried to start to cycle thru with the company line on the injuries, NIL, 105 rosters, Coach transitions etc…

All the ones used to explain our both Football & Bball problems. Jeremy was direct with Hunter and said the cycling of these excuses has to be over for us to move forward.

Recommend the listen and see what you all thought.

My personal opinion is that what hurt on the portal started with the fact that Albin got a late start since he didn’t close the deal until after the MAC Championship. Then, it was worsened by the fact that when he arrived, it was just him, no staff at all, and he had to hire the entire staff. There was a lot going on at the same time, getting adjusted to Charlotte, getting a staff hired, trying to close recruits, trying to get players in the portal to withdraw, trying to evaluate the players they had, and trying to evaluate and recruit players from the portal. All new coaching hires have these problems, to a certain extent, but I think most arrive earlier, and arrive with a complete staff in place.

All things considered, I thought Albin did an amazing job of pulling himself up by his own bootstraps, and i was impressed how much he accomplished, starting with so little. Yet, it still wasn’t good enough to have a good team. Next year, those things won’t be problems. He has a staff, and will have a much earlier start next year, plus he knows what he needs.

But, talking about next year is getting ahead of ourselves. There is still a lot of football to play. Right now, the question is, how much can he accomplish with what he has? Can he continue to improve, and win another game, or more? I don’t know.

I think one of the bigger concerns, at least for me, is that other teams with first year HCs are doing better. App was as bad as us last year, next HC but beat us, temple and tulsa were worse than us, new HCs and are better thsn us.

I liked what he was saying up until he said maybe the problem is just Charlotte. This place is not the problem. If Albin can’t succeed here the problem is Mike Hill and his administration. I think he did a great job bringing Albin in, but he has set the program back multiple times with hiring Healy and extending him and hiring Biff. There is nothing cursed about this place. If we can’t have a successful football program in the next 3 years it’s because we have the wrong people in charge. With a legitimate coaching staff now in place the blame will have to be placed at the very top of the athletic department and not on the coach or the place.

I hear you although I disagree as without an established program, new coach and such I think it put us a bit further behind. Obstacle the same for everyone we just had more mitigating factors than almost anyone else.

We definitely have more excuses for always losing, and by we, I mean Mike Hill and you. It is comforting to know we are just a bit further behind. Thanks.

Fire everybody! Good one MJG. You are nothing if not consistent.
