Paying players makes sense. I believe in doing good work for good pay. I was paid as a graduate student because my project was funded through a private company. If a private company (broadcaster) wants to pay a school for labor, then the students doing the labor deserve a cut of the pay. It happened to me, they deserve it too.
If the question is a matter of the amount they are getting paid, itās proportional to the money put into the system. Athletes are paid a lot of money in this country because of the broadcasters that fund the sports.
I have said this since day 1, the players should have to pick one, full ride or NIL. No reason for them to double dip. The students and their parents lose under current structure.
No arguments from me about how good/bad we have beenā¦ā¦just that we have NOT been āin the basementā for the entire decade (ie; we have not finished LAST/in the basement every year)ā¦..in fact, I think if you look at each season, we havenāt actually finished last in our conference more than maybe 2-3 times.
It is kinda funny to argue about being terrible lol. I got curious about the strength of our opponents last year, as I have attempted to block past seasons from my memory. Opponents finished the season with an average record of 7-6. We beat 1 team with a winning record (ECU) and 4 teams with losing records, including Gardner Webb in a Trexler Ivey-led 4th quarter comeback. ECU was 8-5, GW and Rice both 4-8 and FAU & UAB 3-9 (a combined 22-39). Every team we lost to had a winning record except Chapel Hill at 6-7.
This season so far, our opponents are averaging 4-3 including Monmouth and USF at 6-1. Weāve lost to 3 teams with losing records (Army, Rice, Chapel Hill).
Sanchez is gone. Mike Hill is gone. The Panthers and Steelers are winning. Larry returns to Charlotte Sunday. Itās great being smarter and better looking than your detractors, which is even better when your guys are winning.
Yes, Charlotte needs to increase NIL but Hunter seems overly focused on NIL as the singular issue why we are so bad. Other systematic issues have led the program down this path.
