They really need to find some corporate sponsors to help out with NIL. I’m sure that’s where a big chunk of USF’s comes from. FedEx gives Memphis $5 million for NIL and I’m sure most of that goes to football and basketball. Losing for so long has really hurt the chances of getting the kind of money we need from the everyday fan. Life is expensive right now and it’s hard to invest very much for a 1-11 or 5-7 return. We need some businesses or people with really deep pockets to help kick-start this for Albin to help him show what he can do so that the average fan can see it as a good investment.
That being said, I do plan to give to the current crowdfunding drive going right now. Until they get the gambling tax issue worked out, we are going to be behind on funding without fan and corporate support. It seems like Hill was depending on that money and the fact there’s no guarantee if and when it will come probably helped get him fired.
App has a winning football culture and a solid base, both of which have been crafted well. We have been the complete opposite under that man who got fired.
Hunter mentioned in one of the pods that App was @ 2 million. Now in my mind that doesn’t justify the on-field gap but theirs was apparently 25%ish more than us this year.
NIL is a problem, but we have more issues than that.
I would be surprised at $2M at App. Had a friend that went into to put together $100k for the QB that is now at Tennessee, and he was one of the only one getting paid last year.
Maybe I’m reading too much between the lines, but sounds as if no substantial football NIL infrastructure existed before Biff. Then Biff comes in with his own shadow NIL program (possibly illegally funded), then after Biff leaves a vacuum exists where no solid NIL infrastructure is still in place. Add all that to the fact we’ve had four football coaches in eight years to establish any consistent recruiting base.
Hill allowing Biff to essentially be the sole source of our football NIL was a big mistake. He should have been working on something that wasn’t controlled by the coach.
This is true - but also it was so early in the NIL process that the colleges - by NCAA rule, were not allowed to have anything to do with the setup or operation of a collective. So not really fair to hold that against us or any program.
You are absolutely on point though with lack of structure in the last few years once things were moving in house. It appears to be that we were not prepared for the shifts beyond the gambling funds.
This game is going to look so pathetic on national television on so many levels. I will always love my school and teams, but it really hurts to have such a noncompetitive program on display for the world to see.
I love this time of year on cable television because all the networks start running midweek nighttime Halloween marathons. Like Hulu showing all the Alien movies. Or AMC showing the Friday the 13th series. Or the ESPN networks showing Charlotte 49ers football.
