2025 College Football Coaching Carousel

If he was so concerned about the money then he should not have let them fire Brian Kelly.

Maybe Mike Hill should apply for the job. If he lands it he can help us out with how much we are paying in salaries for people to sit at home

Good read.

Louisiana taxpayers don’t pay the salaries or buyouts of any of LSU’s head coaches and assistants in any sports. LSU’s athletic department is one of the few self-sufficient athletic departments in the country, receiving no funding from the government or student fees.

Considering such shenanigans of Louisiana governors meddling with the LSU football program dates back to Huey Long in the 1920s and 1930s, you sadly realize one thing.

The Louisiana political circus never changes. It’s just a new set of clowns are elected every few years.

100% correct but certain people will believe anything u tell them if you’re sporting a red hat with white lettering

When it comes to gubernatorial involvement in LSU football, Landry has nothing on Huey Long:

Along with improving LSU’s academic reputation, Long believed the school’s football program and band were crucial to its success. Taking an intense interest in the team, Long delivered pregame and halftime pep talks, devised plays, stalked the sidelines during games, and fired two coaches. He poured money into a larger, flashier band, supervised the hiring of two directors, and, with the second one, wrote a new fight song, “Touchdown for LSU.”

Jimbo’s original A&M contract in 2018 was 10 years $75 million guaranteed. So even without the extension in 2021 A&M would have still owed around half of the original $75 million contract when they fired him in 2023. Not saying the governor needs to be involved, but that AD pretty much started and perfected the trend of insanely high coaching contracts and buyouts that have become the norm. I don’t care if it’s state or athletic department funds. Spending that amount of money on a football coach and his buyout is still a terrible look for a state supported university. There are so many better things that money could be spent on and it blows my mind that the same people who use these salaries and buyouts as justification that players should be paid are defending this guy and acting like he should be allowed to continue doing what he’s been doing.

Yep, gotta wonder how those contracts ever got approved by the school presidents and boards. In fact, the LSU Board of Supervisors and the Texas A&M Board of Regents were both unanimous in approving the respective contracts of Kelly (per now ex-LSU AD Woodward) and Fisher (per TAMU AD Bjork). BTW, both of those boards are made up exclusively of gubernatorial appointees.

10 year contract seems dumb. Why do that?

It has to be mentioned on this board, right?:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

But after the Terps Bob Wade move in hoops in 80’s no way would they try it again.

Dumb firing.

he’s done well for Maryland overall and brought in a great young qb.

Now they will struggle to hold on to him.

Losing big to Indiana is not a straw that should break the camels back

unreasonable expectations.

Don’t your boosters get a little tapped out of money?

Some of these schools seem to have a never ending supply of boosters with more money than brains

Didn’t they also have to pay Liberty a decent sum to terminate his contract?

The majority of SEC programs will continually fire their head football coach every 2-3 years. With a 14 team conference only around three fanbases that make the playoff will be somewhat satisfied. Maybe all the money thrown at coaches will slightly help level the playfield.
