Answering the talent question is easy. It’s probably significantly lower. Fifteen players transferred up the P4, and 9 transferred down to G5. About 5 transferred in from P4, and about another 5 came from G5, with the rest of the incoming talent coming from FCS, Division 2, and JUCO. Thus, it’s probably lower in terms of raw talent.
The more difficult questions are, how will performance compare, and how will results compare? The players coming in are motivated, and happy to be at Charlotte. Albin tried to recruit leaders as well as athletes, and that could, in time, lead to more team unity. My guess is that performance and results will be comparable or slightly better, but that’s only a guess, and we’ll have to see what happens this fall.
Performed better in college? For some, yes, but what about the 14 that moved to P4? That was based on college performance, not high school. My point, though, is that winning is a lot more than raw talent.
Note that the portal takes away, but also gives. Terez Traynor has withdrawn, and is returning to Charlotte, while Al-Ma’hi Ali, Xander Lamb, and Nassir Freeman have entered the portal.
I know there’s no guarantees but these are the players I want. Motivated.
I remember a few other players that were motivated and happy to be at Charlotte, like Duke, Reynolds, Ogunjobi, Highsmith, Klugh, Phillips, Deluca, Watts.
I don’t recall them being highly recruited or rated.
Let’s see what the coaches can do to develop hard working motivated players that want to be here.
