Wouldnāt he have to be a grad transfer if he gets the extra year?
I mean it doesnāt matter what he is. He just needs a waiver
It seems there are at least a couple of players for whom they are trying to get an extra year of eligibility. Does anyone know who they are, and what the outlook for getting them back is? Sean Brown is mentioned above, and I seem to remember Mitchell Mayes being mentioned, too, and maybe someone else.
Also, what is the status of Jordan Herman? He was in the portal, then withdrew, but is not on the roster.
Also, I note a third Charlotte DT in the portal, Kainoa Davis, joining Martin and Coates. That leaves only 3 DT on the roster, Tifase, Lambert, and Shockly, plus an incoming Freshman, Doss. Itās also possible that Burgess could play DT.
Jalar holley is the other one
Ty! Getting Jalar back is exactly what is needed. Well, one of the things needed. From my count, after Bushee entered the portal, Charlotte now has 94 on the roster, so they can take 11 from the portal, or if all three of those seeking an extra year get it, they can take 8. I actually think it will be somewhat larger, as more players may leave, hopefully only walkons who arenāt playing.
Shockley was recruited as an Edge and hasnāt played much, IIRC. I wouldnāt count on him for DT minutes.
Hopefully they can get 3-4 DTs from the portal.
Edit - one added, and he looks good. Welcome Taz Williams!
I was at the spring game and while itās dangerous to draw many conclusions I was concerned about our D line. They seemed to get moved at will. Hopefully Taz add and a few others will shore it up. I think our other rooms are okay other than Tight End
Albin mentioned the need to do āroster cutsā, which are necessary to get from 120 to 105. Charlotte now seems to have about 97 on the roster after the addition of Taz WIlliams and Ian Kelley, and the loss of Tanner Bushee. As mentioned above, there are also three players trying to get an extra year of eligibility (Mayes, Holley, and Brown), plus a player who withdrew from the portal, but is not currently on the roster (Herman), so Charlotte could be around 100 when all is done.
My guess is that what Albin is saying is that, with a roster size of 105, there is no longer room for walkons who arenāt likely to contribute in the next year or two. Thus, they have no choice but to encourage some of those players to find a spot elsewhere, making room for them to pick up players from the portal who are more apt to be able to help the team. Itās possible that we could see up to 20 walkon players going into the portal in the next two days, which could make room for Charlotte to add as many as 25 more players.
Roster reductions will be happening at schools all across the country, and the portal will become very full. Players who get good offers may be quick to accept, lest they be lost in a very crowded portal. I expect to see a tremendous amount of activity in this thread this coming week.
Did herman withdraw from portal? I thought he just got a ucla offer
I saw a post on here that he had withdrawn, but someone said he had to get his credits in order, and that he would probably go back into the portal. Maybe thatās exactly what happened, as he has never re-appeared on the roster.
Correct Carl. Last word on Herman was just that.
Also, I completely agree with you about what this week is going to be like, but I wasnāt sure how many walk ones we have left.
Albin will be jumping all over DTs and WRs in the portal, I suspect. At least I hope so.
Had the pleasure of speakig with one of Charlotteās newest transfers, Taz Williams. Find that here and subscribe today!

Jordan Herman lands at Sacramento State.
Itās been quiet for a few days, so it appears that there isnāt going to be a major effort to push walkons out and replace them with players from the portal, and I think thatās a wise choice. While players from the portal might be more talented, walkons are often the heart and soul of a program, pushing the starters by trying to outwork them, while also being the most loyal.
There has already been a lot of turnover, and more is not needed. Even without more departures, there is still room for about 7 more players from the portal, which should be enough to fill any remaining needs. By my count, 59 players went into the portal, but 13 of those withdrew, for a net loss of 46 players. Meanwhile, 28 players have been added from the portal, along with 6 freshmen. If they add 7 more players, whether Freshmen or from the portal, that will bring the number up to 41 total new players., nearly 40% of the total team.
At this point, the most important job for the coaching staff it to continue to build the old and new players into a team, to unite them with common goals and sense of purpose, and a kinship, and to get them to the point where they can trust and rely on each other, and trust and rely on the coaching staff. Pushing out walkons and bringing in more bodies might well increase the overall talent pool, but would disrupt this new unity.
All the disgruntled players are gone, so hopefully everyone who is left is gruntled. Now what is needed is for the players to work hard all summer long, in the weight room, and with each other, so that months from now, when fall camp opens, this group is in playing condition, and united with the common goal of kicking Appy St, and going on from there to a bowl game.
We have at least 7 OVs this weekend so hopefully we seal the deal
The recent news on the house case could impact this a lot. The judge is instructing that roster limits have to be phased in or she will not approve the settlement.
What a hot mess that is.
