The judge is not deciding roster limits. As Gassman noted, she wants what was already agreed upon by both sides in the House settlement to be phased in so as to protect current athletes. Some schools thought they could go ahead and start making cuts before House has been officially approved. Worse case scenario for the NCAA + P4 is that judge sends this to trial.

Coupled with the head scratching decision concerning Fordham men’s basketball, this has not been a good week for the NCAA in the PR department.

Phasing in roster limits doesn’t mean you have to hit the limit. If they knock 2 spots off a year for 5 years teams can still stop at 105 this year if they feel like it.

In portal activity today, I see William Hawkins IV in the portal, along with a RB named Watson Cusick that I haven’t ever seen on the roster. Also, in looking at the updated roster, a lot of names are no longer present:

RB Jack Simmons
OL Aiden Martinez
OL Jameson Jensen
LB Xavier Simmons
LS Anthony Saragusa,

My guess is that most of these were walkons. That isn’t all of the walkons, but it is a significant portion of them. It is very sad to see, especially if it is not essential to actually get down to 105 immediately.

If they are all gone, there is probably room now for about 17 more additions from the portal.

He may already be behind someone, such as Braden Mullen, which is what Ourlads shows. I personally thought he’d be playing a lot this fall, but he probably knows better. If he’s not happy at Charlotte, that’s what the portal is for, I guess. It’s hard to care too much, given how this works.
