clt says bickering over college sports is why the internet was created
Leave it to CLT to put it in simple terms! Great post!
I’ll see all of you at the Hayes Friday night to support the guys !

Well we did win today! Guys hung in there to win 5=4.
Always interesting to jump in the baseball thread on a Monday morning.
If you don’t think that Coach Woodard has elevated our program since 2019 then I don’t think you’ve been paying attention. I think anyone who covers or follows college baseball will tell you the same.
I am certainly close to the program but I’m not going to stick my head in the sand and say that everything is fine, because it is not. This season has been disappointing and we are all surprised at how it has gone.
Our staff has navigated several ups and downs over the last few years dealing with the changing landscape of college baseball. They will get through this patch as well.
Guess I haven’t been paying attention. I look at results versus expectations and find this coach and his staff lacking. He may be a nice guy and all. I just don’t know. But I want a winner the same as I expect in our other sports. If you don’t perform you gotta’ go eventually.
Can I ask a question as a very casual observer / fan?
It seems to me like the issue has been starting pitching. No?
If so, what other things / hires / etc could Coach do to rectify that deficiency?
Recruit better pitching
Hire a better pitching coach
Work on the mix of pitches and situational pitching
Call a better game behind the plate
Change the rotation
Forget the shift it isn’t a value added move and will effect the pitchers psyche
The problem is the top to bottom quality of the pitching staff. We don’t have good starting pitching and our relievers are spotty at best. How much is on the coaching and how much is quality, I don’t know. However, the coach is the head of the team and responsible for its performance.
Solid post ninernoize. I would add that our situational base running is sub par, at best and that is NOT a new thing.
We’ve had 10 seasons in program history where we’ve won 36 or more games. Woodard is responsible for 4 of them in his 5 full seasons.
We’ve had 18 losing seasons in program history. Woodard is responsible for 1 of them.
2 conference titles and 2 regionals in 5 full seasons as HC. We’ve been to a Regional Final twice in program history, the closest we’ve come to Omaha. Woodard is responsible for 1 of the 2.
We were on the front end of recruiting out of the transfer portal and have had tremendous success, including 2 players that became All-Americans. You are not going to hit on every recruit, but we’ve hit on many more than we’ve missed on.
You want a “winner the same as I expect in our other sports.” If we had this type of success from our basketball or football coach now, then we’d probably name the stadium after them.
Tell Bobby Lutz that. Most wins ever, most NCAA bids ever, including several consecutive. Hey, tell Will Healy. More guys drafted than ever, only bowl bid, only winning season…common denominator, their results were trending down for the most part and they got fired.
I’m not surprised you missed my point. If Tim Albin or Wes Miller win 2 conference championships and go to 2 NCAA tourneys/Bowl games in their first 5 seasons, they’d probably get something named after them on campus.
Hell, baseball finished 2nd in our conference last year. If you want to compare to other programs on campus, When’s the last time we sniffed 2nd or 3rd in our basketball or football conference? Can you even imagine us getting anywhere close to that at this point?
Also, I am starting to see why some say it is pointless to post on here anymore.
I worry that his personal life situation could cause him to lose some of his edge and focus ?
Cant be easy.
He can’t quit since his wife does not make enough to retire at this stage of his life, plus his wife seems to be doing well for herself.
You are such a smart “guy”…, but im the problem. I understood your “point” and obviously you didn’t understand mine…guys that had plenty of early success, but were pushed out anyway relatively soon after…Also, since you obviously dont know, we just finished 3rd in mens basketball in 2024.. would that qualify as “sniffing 2nd or 3rd” in conference?..You act like Woodard has done more than any of our other coaches…he has NOT.. hell, his wife did more than he has…I won’t waste any more effort to try and help you understand. For the record, i hope like hell he gets this team and program going in the right direction again and I do NOT expect him to be fired after this year. He’ll get another year.
We have under performed the last 3 years. 5-13 in conference is not good. You like what he is doing and I don’t. His record is not much better than Hibbs percentage wise and we let Hibbs go after a couple of tough years. I firmly believe Woodard has underperformed versus what we expected of him. I said my piece and counted to 3. Go Niners!
