2026 Charlotte 49er Football 🏈

I feel like(on paoer) we did quite well at WR, upgraded at TE and did pretty good on oline. Qb should be better. Rb looks okay, but oline is more important. My biggest concerns are db and edge, although getting Simpson back was key.

I think we’re definitely better, but we have to be a LOT better to become competitive. I hope we did enough. Offense should be much better but defense didn’t retool too well

I don’t disagree, but I think that the defense didn’t need to upgrade as much. Last year wasn’t really a year where you can tell much about the defense. Given that the offense wasn’t doing anything to help them, the fact that the defense didn’t give up 40 points a game tells me that the defense was doing some good things.

I wish we got a player in the portal that everyone would be like yeah we didn’t expect that and for us to be a reach for him. Maybe the OL from Penn state will turn into that player as he was a former 5-star recruit but he has not played much and has dealt with injuries. He could be an example of the perfect player to show how stars don’t always matter. Having previously coached in PA, Williams attended a HS of about 950 students but it was grades 7-12 so a pretty small school and I wonder if he was overrated but even if he was a 4 star or a high 3 it’s still a great get and a very high reward move.

I’d say jaden barnes from app was a really good add. He was their top WR.

If we can get some first downs, that will certainly make the D a little better on its own. I’m optimistic for the 26 season.

There were some defensive additions that I really like. I like several of the DTs, White, Jackson and Ancrum. Other than that, I like Wall, too, but I’m not sure if he will end up at LB or S. I also like a lot of the Freshmen, and I expect to see at least 2-4 of them play as true Freshmen, perhaps Bussey, Domanik, Usher, and Blakely. My biggest unknown is all the DBs. I hope that at least 4 of them turn out to be good.

I always worry about the OL and DL, but my lingering doubt is the pass rush.

I can’t tell you how pumped I would be if we could get to the QB consistently and run the ball effectively.

It’s all speculation until we see what really happens this Fall, but my personal belief is that the interior DL and the linebackers will be the strength of the defense. I believe Charlotte will have a stout run defense up the middle. I have somewhat less confidence in the DEs, but even if Charlotte gets some pressure from the edge, someone still has to cover the receivers, and I don’t have a clue who that will be other than Clinkscales and Gill.

Could put this in the football thread, but I think this is more of an entire A.D. issue. White needs to make sure we stop appearing on these types of lists sooner rather than later.

Surprised we aren’t closer to the worst.

Will Healy was above .500 as a coach for quite a while, those are a lot of our wins. Lambert and biff’s final teams had 5 wins too

That is an Ugly list. Going to take a while to get off of it.

He was only above .500 for a few weeks at the end of the 2019 season.

3-1 at the beginning of 2021, but fair call out. More we were hovering around .500 under him until his final year, which is much better than that overall win percentage. Covid really came at a brutal time for our department, Sanchez was rolling in that 2019/20 season too

I think Charlotte football canceled more games than almost any FBS team in 2020. Schools like MTSU played out almost their full schedule. Clear sign of incompetence from our AD and the lack of seriousness about football.

Healy quit recruiting for all of the Covid era. This is when he should have put the hammer down and pushed for higher quality recruits. He got lazy and I believe he started believing the hype about his “brilliance”. I really liked him but he shot himself in the foot on this one. I think he is doing a pretty decent job at ETSU.

Lambert didn’t like to recruit and it showed. He also didn’t have much of a personality. I think he was a good defensive coach.

Tim Brewster could recruit. I wish Albin had kept him as an Assistant Head Coach and head of recruitment.

Brewster was openly campaigning for the HC job so I doubt he would have stayed on as an assistant, nor so I think that would be good for chemistry

So sorry to hear that. And same age as my daughter. My condolences to his family.
