clt says it was a weird day with baseball, softball, rain and then a spring game.
much harder to park than expected

Purdie was dealing all night.
Awesome one hand catch too.
Max Brown getting in on the action:
I was talking to my wife and said ānumber 1 is the transfer and was basically guaranteed the starting job but the freshman looks like heās going to be challenging for that spotā
Didnāt even know his name was Purdie at that point but his whole family was apparently sitting behind me and bragged on him the whole time after that. They said the only reason he came here was because of Poggi.
clt says we need a qb1
Purdie was really looking good tonight. His first pass was a beauty and on the mark. I was more impressed with his abilities vs. Brown but it was only one game. Our center for part of the time looked way undersized. I am concerned with our OL. The defense was getting very close to the QBās. Worried about our PKās. They did not look good. Punting looked great though. It is just tough to tell what we have in this format.
Purdies arm talent was very impressive.
Accurate and damn he can drive the ball down field.
If he can also read the game the future is very bright for him.
Purdie throws a beautiful ball
Purdue has amazing arm talent. He can zip it. Talked to him after the game and he said he came to charlotte because he felt like we were over looked and he wants to change that.
We have more speed at WR than last year. A lot of young talent there and QB room
Every time I get down on college sports, I go back to campus and get sucked back in. Had a great time at the spring game last night. There was really too much happening on campus at one time. I wanted to be 3 places at one time (baseball, football and softball). We decided to tailgate and spring game.
The QB position is the most interesting in our short history. I thought Brown looked good. He may have been a little too pumped to play in front of the fans. He has a good arm and made some nice passes. Ivey looked comfortable and should. He has the most experience in the system and in game action too. Purdie caught me by surprise. After he hit on a couple of passes, just about everyone in the stands was looking around and raising eyebrows. I donāt recall that happening before. He looks as good or better than advertised. Please temper expectations as this was one practice. I wouldnāt even have called it a game but he looked good 7 on 7 and 11 on 11. I think we have some good options at QB. I would not call the QB battle a done deal based on what I saw.
After the game, the fans were allowed on the field. I was blown away by the way our player conducted themselves. Some of the nicest, kindest, respectful and humble interactions I have ever seen. There was gratitude from the players for the support and optimism for the upcoming season. Multiple players talked about the difference and improvement from last year to this year. On a final note, Biff is a class act. From beginning to end of the fan session, he had a long line for autographs. He was great signing autographs, taking photos and talking about his vision for the program. Mike Hill was also on the field and spoke about expansion with me. He is excited to be expanding and offering seating options that has not been available. I am confident this phase is just the start. Great time last night. Go Niners!

But Brown wasnāt the only quarterback that caught Balfourās eye. True freshman DeShawn Purdie was impressive in his collegiate debut, and the 17-year-old signal-caller is garnering respect within the 49ers locker room ā and fast.
Wait⦠Wut? Purdie is SEVENTEEN? He is 6ā4 220. Looks like a grown man.
Purdie, a three-star prospect, enrolled early with the 49ers after throwing for over 4,500 yards and 45 touchdowns in his final two years with Millford Mill Academy in Maryland.
Iām thinking we stole this kid in recruiting. Big strong kid who can already sling it, and probably still growing.
Yes. Iām 6ā3 and I had to look up at him. His mom was there and said she thinks he will add a couple more inches.
I think we have the best arm talent we have ever had with the top 2. Now have to see how they react when being hit and pressure and critical plays but the way the ball comes out from them is different. We have 5 qb and all are freshman or sophomore.
WR we have definitely upgraded the talent and hopefully Bradley stays healthy and we have more players coming. So it will be interesting to see who emerges and if someone steps up to be the man or not.
My takeaways: qbs have strong arms, accurate throws, WRs have good timing, strong hands, and Biff is putting out a more classy physical appearance and attitude that we can all be proud of.
Small takeaways from the spring game.
Max Brown looked okay. Started off rough but by the last drive commanded the offense well. I wonder if the fact he wasnāt allowed to run the ball hampered him in this specific drill.
Purdie looked damn good. Best deep ball Iāve seen ever from a Charlotte QB. Dude might be our QB of the future, or see some time this year. Undoubtedly qb2 imo.
O line looked mehhhh, but still plenty of time for them to gel as a unit.
Prince Bemah and Jaden Bradley were the best of the rest that I saw.
Also, I hate the pay to play world of college athletics, but I did love how open the coaching staff and players were to fans. Conducted themselves with class when they didnāt necessarily have to. Biff especially, I really hope it works out with him and we keep improving
Went to baseball then tailgated then the spring game. Had a blast and always good to see old friends.
Wasnāt sure what to expect but it was pretty fun overall
one small suggested edit to your statement:
we need 1 qb1 (pretty sure that is why you were implying)
thanks everyone for all the comments on the SG, however the excitement around Purdie concerns me as well a bit. I canāt live thru another show like the rotating of QBās we had to endure last year. I donāt mind a couple of packages thrown in for Purdie a game, in certain situations, but Brown is the man.
I would put it like this, I think Max Brown is QB1. I saw nor heard anything that told me any different. His last drive was impressive. It was pleasantly surprising to see how well others played last night also. Based off the spring game (small sample) and player conversations afterward we have upgraded the talent in the QB room. Good news all the way around.
Brown is qb1 but I donāt remember a season we have had where the back up didnāt have to play. Some seasons 3 or last year we played 5 qb.
So Iām just glad to feel comfortable with both of them
