Commits can start signing the dotted line one week from today. A-10 looking pretty good on the recruiting front, though Niners and GW have some catching up to do.
Updated with Jarvis Davis added for Charlotte. Also know there are additions for Fordham, UMass, and URI as well and will get to those later.
Looks like Baby Baron is having 2nd thoughts…
Projo.com: Billy Baron headed to Virginia?
While Fordham interim Grasso keeps reeling them in, which begs the question: if he isn’t named permanent head coach, then do the commits jump ship?
Well, won’t have to face any more Barons in uniform unless we play the Cavaliers…
Projo.com: Billy Baron confirms commitment to UVA
Makes me wonder - will this make it easier for URI to push Jim Baron out at the end of this season, especially if the Rhody Rams fail to make it the NCAA yet again? Hmmm…
GW picks up a commitment from 6-8 F Nemanja Mikic of United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte. From a recent piece by Langston Wertz:
A little surprised that 6-8 senior Nemanja Mikic has not signed. He's a tall, deadeye shooter with a quick release. I've covered United Faith more than a dozen times the past two seasons and I've never seen him have an off night shooting. He could help a lot of schools with his zone-busting ability, and he has range well beyond the college 3. Mikic has interest from about 10 Division I schools, and I can't disagree with Falcons coach Shaun Wiseman who thinks that one is going to get a surprisingly good player late in the process.CharlotteObserver.com: United Faith looking like a champion again
Reading on GW board that we recruited Mikic as well per these two pieces from the Big O:
CharlotteObserver.com: High School Gameday - Dec. 8, 2009
High School Basketball Gameday - Jan. 11, 2010
Hmmm…
Updated to reflect Jerome Hunter’s verbal to St. Joe’s. That makes 2 players with connections to the city of Charlotte committing to A-10 programs within a week.
Read another mention of Charlotte recruiting Mikic, but NN.N won’t let me link for some reason. Anyway, read about it on The GW Hatchet website.
Updated to reflect loss of Davis.
Also, still no word on whether or not Grasso’s recruits stay with Fordham.
Just reading that David Gibbs will transfer out of UMass, so that makes the signing of Traynham even more important. Also opens up a schollie for Morgan, who will be eligible after 1st semester 2010.
Also reading that St. Joe’s might have a number of defections too, but nothing official as with Gibbs. Ditto Duquesne, though Clark has been officially reinstated following his suspension after the A-10 tourney.
Fordham is the one that I’m expecting a dramatic roster shakeup a la what Everhart did when he took over at Duquesne. Bronx Rams have maybe 4-5 A-10 quality players (if that many) and won’t be surprised to see Percora perform a “housecleaning” at Rose Hill.

Say it ain’t so! David “The Lottery Pick” Gibbs is leaving UMass.
[quote=“Ninerballin, post:71, topic:18925”]Say it ain’t so! That’s not going to happen now! :
Anyway, just read a tweet from Zagaria stating that Pecora will be meeting with at least 2 of Grasso’s 3 in-season Fordham recruits - 6-4 SG Sean Armand (ESPN grade = 90) and 6-5 SF Jayon James (ESPN grade = 85).
Definitely going to be some movement at Duquesne as the Dukes pick up 3rd recruit in 6-4 wing Jerry Jones out of Inkster, Michigan (suburb of Detroit). Jason Duty was only senior on team and Bill Clark was reinstated following suspension, so at least 2 will be transferring out. Hmmm…

Billikens.com also has a thread that Kiwi 6-11 C Rob Loe has committed, but haven’t seen anything official on that yet. If true (and have no reason not to believe it), then a great pick-up for Majerus & Co.
Rob Loe to Saint Louis confirmed. The #1 rated New Zealand prospect in the 2010 class chose Billikens over Arizona, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Pitt, and Saint Mary’s. ESPN grades him a 91 and the #40 PF.
On the flip side, SLU loses 6-4 G Jeff Reid to transfer. The 2009 Mr. Kansas Basketball only played in 5 games for Saint Louis before suffering a season-ending concussion against Notre Dame. Speculation is that he’ll probably end up at Wichita State.
STLToday.com: Guard Jeff Reid transferring; 7-footer from New Zealand gives SLU a commitment
In addition, Saint Louis is in the running for 6-8 PF Majok Majok of Northfield Mount Herman School in Massachusetts, who has narrowed his list down to SLU, BC, OK State, and Oregon State.
Majerus getting it done on the recruiting end. I wish we’d tap the international pipelines more often. There is a lot of talent in S. America, Europe, and Australia.
What did he hit to have to miss the rest of the season for a concussion?
Don’t remember the specifics about the injury, just that he suffered continuing headaches apparently so severe that he didn’t attend classes during the spring semester at Saint Louis as well. Has decided to transfer to hometown D-II Washburn, where he will be eligible to play next season.
Per Adam Zagoria, Fordham loses recruit 6-5 G Jayon James, one of the three verbals received by then-interim coach Jared Grasso.

UMass picks up a commit from 6-8 PF David Laury out of New Jersey. Had originally signed with Western Kentucky, then got homesick and asked for/received his release and verballed to Iona. Now, with Kevin Willard leaving Iona to take over the Seton Hall program, Laury is once again moving, this time to the A-10.
So far, all I know is that Rob Loe has signed with Saint Louis.
Saint Joseph’s may be in play again for 6-7 PF Ron Roberts now that he’s been released by St. John’s.
UD recruit Jesse Berry in some hot water, having been arrested in his hometown of Lafayette, IN. Apparently got caught up in a fight between the current girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend! Actually his 2nd arrest this year - first one on shoplifting charges.
Film at 11…
