As this piece from the Olean Times-Herald points out, Bona has no incoming recruits with the decision by Eli Carter to prep in 2010-11 instead of playing college ball. That, as well as the recent legal troubles of several Bonnies who decided to “settle the score” with some players from a nearby JUCO school, haven’t given the Bonnie faithful much to cheer about this off-season. Hopefully the recent addition of former Charlotte Hornet Michael Adams as an assistant will help salvage something on the recruiting trail as the Bonnies look for additional pieces to complement 2009 A-10 ROY/2010 All-Conference player Andrew Nicholson during his upcoming junior and senior seasons.

Just read on the Bonnies board that Guest, the GW commit, had verbaled to SBU before changing his mind.
i was reading the gw board and this kid guest doesnt sound like a division one recruit. it sounded like they beat out mostly d3 schools and some lower level d1’s to get him.
Bronx Rams add local product 6-4 SG Jeffrey Short, who averaged 28.7 ppg (including 51 3-pointers in league play) as a senior at JFK H.S.

URI board is reporting that 6-5 SF P.J. Lockridge (Racine, WI) has committed to the Rhody Rams. Spent the past year at Heat Academy in Martinsville, VA. ESPN = 89, while 3-stars from both Rivals and Scout.
Well, Rhody Rams making a gamble by taking on Lockridge at the same time they are appealing the NCAA’s ruling on Lisandro Ruiz Moreno’s eligibility. Either way, 14 is one too many, so something has got to give!
FWIW, former URI signee Kyle Cain ends up at Arizona State, along with ex-Duke JUCO commit Carrick Felix.
Per Zagoria, have moved Fordham commits Devon “Fatty” McMillan and Jeffrey Short to 2011-12 list as both have announced they will prep in 2010-11.
Bona gets a commit from 6-3 SG Sam de Haas, captain of the U-18 Dutch National Team.

Bona goes international again for yet another 6-3 SG as Schmidt signs Matthew Wright out of Martingrove Collegiate Institute in Toronto. Joins fellow Canuck Andrew Nicholson in Olean.

BTW, attended same school as actor Keifer Sutherland and musician Tom Cochrane.
Per Zagsblog, Xavier loses out on ex-UNCW 6-9 C John Fields, who picked Tennessee over the Musketeers, Miami-FL, and Rutgers. Also lost out on Ole Miss transfer 6-6 wing Eniel Polynice, who chose Seton Hall over X and Nebraska.
In other X news, a UC student is arrested in the beating of Musketeer signee Griffin Mckenzie.

Temple loses out on Monmouth transfer 6-7 F Travis Taylor, who chose Boston College over the Owls and Seton Hall. Does look like TU might be the frontrunner for the Marquette-spurned 6-4 G DJ Newbill after Buzz Williams rescinded his schollie so MU could make room for a Oregon transfer.
Rivals is showing former BC commit 6-9 PF Papa Samba Ndao (Senegal/Monteverde Academy, FL) as a commit to St. Joe’s, but no confirmation as of yet. Would be a big get for the Hawks - Rivals 3-star, Scout 4-star, and ESPN rated 89. Released from his NLI with Eagles following Al Skinner’s firing by BC.
Projo.com is reporting that URI has gotten a commit from 7-2 C Blake Vedder (no relation to Eddie as far as I know!) out of Ohio who prepped this past year in Las Vegas at Impact Academy. Rhody Rams do have a scholarship available with the NCAA’s denial of Lisando Ruiz Moreno’s appeal over his eligibility. Like Papa Samba Ndao at St. Joe’s, no official confirmation as of yet.
Also looks like Bona will get another player or two as the Bonnies are looking at a couple of guards, including 6-3 combo Isiah Stokely of New York City, who prepped this past year in Charlotte at Evelyn Mack Academy.
Usually wouldn’t post something about the Pittsburgh Pro-Am League, but this piece from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about Duquesne incoming frosh T.J. McConnell caught my interest. Yes, it’s summer league, but sounds like the Dukes might have a “steal” in McConnell, who is holding his own against teammates from Duquesne, as well as Pitt and Robert Morris.

UMass beat writer Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette is reporting that in-state hoopster 7-0 C Andrew McCarthy will walk-on for the Minutemen. If he’s half as good as the last walk-on 7-footer in the A-10 (who actually transferred to Cornell and become a starter on the Big Red’s NCAA team!), then DK will have an answer for the height deficieny in Amherst.
URI board is reporting that the Rhody Rams have landed 6-1 PG Daniel West, who spent the past season at Pensacola JC. A Michigan high school all-stater led Saginaw H.S. to a couple of state championshiops as a 3-year starter. Originally a Tennessee-signee who ran afoul of the NCAA Clearinghouse and never actually played for the Vols while sitting out his freshman year. If correct, this would (ironically, to say the least) address the loss of PG Lisandro Ruiz Moreno, who signed with URI, also sat out his freshman year, but was denied by the NCAA Clearinghouse! West would have 3 seasons of eligibility.
Vedder to URI is official. Projo piece also mentions the recruitment of West.

Trying to keep up with URI has been interesting, to say the least. Projo sportswriter Kevin McNamara is reporting the Rhody Rams as being in play for 6-3 SG Michael Perez of Arizona who led the state in scoring as a 2009-10 H.S. senior at nearly 30 ppg. Perez had recently been reported as committing to St. John’s earlier this month, but that has since been disputed by Zagoria and others.
Also reading rumors that URI signee PJ Lockridge may not be academically eligible for 2010-11, so perhaps the Perez talk has some credence.
Jeff Goodman reporting Daniel West to URI, but still haven’t seen anything official on that.
BTW, former Rhody commit Kyle Cain claims that he requested his release from URI after Baron told him he probably wouldn’t be the coach in Kingston by the time Cain would finish his collegiate career.
Anyway, for a team whose 2010 recruiting looked pretty dire following the defections of the aforementioned Cain to Arizona State and Billy Baron to UVa (not to mention the NCAA’s denial of PG Lisandro Ruiz Moreno’s appeal and the departure of a couple of assistant coaches), Jim Baron & Co. are looking pretty good with the signings of SFs Tashawn Mabry and PJ Lockbridge (even if the latter has to prep 2010-11), PF Levan Shengalia, and C Blake Vedder. Add to that either of Perez or West (or both - who knows!) and it’s looking like Rhody might have bettered the original class of Baron and Cain. Of course, since the games are settled on the court and not on paper, only time will tell.

So for 2010, URI loses 3 (Cothran, Ulmer, & Moreno), signed West, Shengelia, Mabry, Lockridge, and Vedder to LOIs, and now Perez? The math doesn’t seem to work.
If someone is released from their LOI (Lockridge is interesting since he received interest from coaches at Georgia & Boston U) and is eligible for '10, would the A10 allow that recruit to sign with another A10 team?
