A must have outside the football stadium

Weā€™ve got to have a statue like this outside the stadium. The newest piece of the puzzle outside the refurbished BB&T Field in Winston Salemā€¦
DEACON STATUE DEDICATION

The Deacon mascot plays a unique role in the identity, history and tradition of Wake Forest University. A new Deacon Statue created by renowned sculptor Jon Hair honors the distinctive persona and spirit of the beloved Wake Forest mascot. The statue is located in McCreary Plaza in front of Deacon Tower at BB&T Field.

Wake Forest will hold a Deacon Statue dedication ceremony open to the public at 4:30 p.m. prior to the home football game against Clemson on Thursday, October 9. A limited number of commemorative posters and replica statues will be available for order at the dedication and in the Deacon Shop. All members of the Wake Forest faithful are invited to take part in the statue dedication. Visit wakeforestsports.com for more information.
Letā€™s hope if we get one it isnā€™t that creepy and doesnā€™t have the potential for as many off color jokes as this one.

Statue of Gillderness would rockā€¦

How you you get green and white on a the face of a bronze statue? Hmmmmm.

Bust, that deacon likeness comes from the orignal WF Deacon mascot, long before there were cartoon mascots.

Let some of it oxidize for a start.

Oh, ok. Cool. Still creepy. ;)

Maybe something like this on a larger scale.

NC State has their wolf mountain with water flowing through it.

Itā€™d also be cool to have a Norm with a raised pick, a little more aggressive mascot maybe.

His face reminds me of the old-school Ninja Turtle action figures I had when I was a kid.

Maybe something like this on a larger scale.

It would be cool to have a fountain that turned into a stream that ran in front of Norm as if he was really panning for gold. Donā€™t think it would look too aggressive tho.

Perhaps we could erect a statue that looked like my sig.

Very cool.

Irwin Belk commissioned the sculptures of all the other sports here on campus. I would assume we would get a football player at least. As far as a mascot statue goes, that would be very cool. Jon Hair has done a lot of sculptures for Belk on other campuses. Awesome stuff.

I say we get a sculpture of Daniel Day Lewis from the beginning of There Will Be Blood. Have him holding a Pick Axe like he just got done using it to destroy his opposition.

I see a strange resemblance. I didnā€™t think the Baptists were supposed to drink beer, including Milwaukeeā€™s Best.

I was looking at this guyā€™s website and saw a building that looked a lot like CHHS but a statue that definitely isnā€™t there now. It is CHHS and apparently the statue should be up this year at some point.

Looks like heā€™s already working on one for our campusā€¦ see ā€œThe Human Linkā€ on page 4 of the gallery.
