A10 football Budgets

Found this on the A10 message board. We should be able to field a team!

Football Budgets (Fiscal Year 2004)
Massachusetts $3,806,154
Villanova $3,285,166
Fordham $3,255,639
Richmond $2,961,700
Rhode Island $2,901,917
New Hampshire $2,528,401
Maine $2,151,661

FYI, the football budgets for the other A-10 schools are as follows:
Temple $7,582,744
Dayton $1,184,215
Duquesne $532,667
La Salle $256,241

Shoot, I bet one or two of you guys could fund our team with these #'s

Anyone know (or want to speculate) what startup costs would be for an A10 football program?

NinerNation.net want to sponsor a pledge drive?

Temple $7,582,744

Temple actually plays football in the Big East, hence the reason their budget is(has to be) twice that of any other school. But they are getting kick out of the Big East and may drop football all together.

Temple is the only team playing I-A football.

I-AA football is where Charlotte needs to start out in anyways.

I am in full agreeance. Div 1-AA is where we need to start. And it is a very prominent league. 4 Teams from the A-10 are in the 16 Team Championship Field.

Anyone see where UAB is going to a bowl? I thought their program was drowning in red ink. What’s up?

We are required to start out at 1-AA acoording to the NCAA, you can’t just start a football team and start out at 1-A(See UCONN and S. Fla). Our goal needs to be
1-A ultimately or it’s not worth it.

Hmm let me think about this:

Start out I-AA and get a contending team going then jump to I-A and get slaughter all while spending a lot more money.

I would say just be happy with a I-AA team that gets to the ā€œfinal fourā€ a lot a la Delaware and keep the majority of the spending on the basketball team.

They'll be drowning in more red ink after taking "everyone" to Hawaii for the holiday. C-USA won't be sharing in any bowl revenue from them. UAB and/or Conference USA will likely have to guarantee between 5,000-10,000 tickets @ $40 each.

Unless you’re one of the BCS teams, there’s not too much money coming in after expenses.

There is talk that the CAA will take over the A10’s football league.

Do you have a link for those budget numbers? I would like to show those to some GSU folks?

Thanks in advance.

I couldn't disagree more.

1AA programs are much easier to break even. Our goal needs to be to start 1AA and break even and stay AA for a decade or so. That would ad so much for alumni gathering in the fall, AND KEEP OUR STUDENTS ON CAMPUS to ad to the overall college experience.

App, Furman, Wofford, Ga Southern have have great football environments for students and alumni.

this is a pipe dream. Judy Rose = excuses.

Look at the MAC (I think that is the conf) and their success this year, they were granted a number of bowl slots.

Schools are proving you can have success at the 1A level, and success does not have to be a national championship.

metro is right on… divI-AA team is what we need RIGHT NOW! It does look like A10 is splitting with the CAA but that would still leave… UMass, Richmond, New Hampshire, Maine, Villanova, Rhode Island left… seems like there’s room for us.

It is our only option right now!!! But it needs to be a short term option ala UConn and S. Fla. We are projected to be at 35,000 students by 2015. How many schools have that many students and not D-1 football?? 1-AA is fine to start off and it is fine for App St. and schools like them and yes it is definetely better than nothing. But long term it will not have the impact we need unless we are 1-A.

Didn't Real say that technically, all college basketball teams are 1AA, by NCAA definition?

I believe that Division 1 schools with no football are officially classified as D1-AAA.

Football is split into D1-A & D1-AA.
Basketball is only D1. There is no split.
Whatever we’re going to do. Do it soon! We could get a bunch of Alums together to go to the Pembroke game & hold up signs saying, ā€œJudy, what about us?ā€ as a silent protest. Call ESPN, ABC, & CBS to let them know. OF course we’d have to have a lot committed to showing up if we call in the press.
