A10 transfers

There were moments when I watched Briscoe or Green play 38, 39, 40 minutes a game and commit way too many turnovers … and wondered if laying down the law for laying down the law’s sake re: Bowden was of questionable judgement on the coach’s part. I was as heavy of a critic of Bowden as anyone, but he did want to come back here and we could have used the open schollie on him. The coach didn’t want him, though.

You can all call me an idiot and a hater and the worst person in the world now.
but that means that we would still have bowden today. i dont want to take a player for one year because we need bodies when we dont think he is capable of helping the program long term. that scholarship will be used on a better player.

I’ll look at it this way. I’d rather have Pierria Henry for the next 4 years, than to have had Bowden last year + the next 2.

I expect he probably learned how to play defense, dribble, and pass in juco, since they are renowned for teaching fundamentals.

I’m a little surprised ECU has to take a flier on a guy like Bowden, it suggests their recruiting is not going all that well.

shrugs I would have let Diego return to the team after his freshman year. Diego was horrible on defense, too.

From what I’ve seen of Bowden, I think he’d be a worthwhile player to have as a junior or senior. He DID drive me crazy at times, but he also seemed like a decent kid and a good gym rat. Similar to Diego, he possessed great shooting ability.

I like what Major has done on the recruiting trail this off-season and I like the signing of Henry, but I can’t pass judgement and declare Henry as the superior player and teammate just yet. I never watched him play and I never met the kid.

One or two games doesn’t make you a proven D1 talent.

I think the combination of…

-he committed to Virginia Tech originally. decommitted b/c he was recruited over in the same year

-led your team in scoring on the canadian tour (14ppg). not a good barometer since it’s the equivalent of d2 ball

-put up 6ppg off the bench as a freshman. slightly offset by two high scoring games

-was all conference for top 5 JUCO power Chipola. Juco doesn’t always translate

combined tells me the guy can play at this level and has potential. He has a lot of competition though.
I think the fact that he transferred out from a D1 program to another, bullshitted around, and then had to go JUCO speaks alot more. I’m not saying the kid doesn’t have talent, but he has a hellacious time putting it together and if he wasn’t going to ECU I doubt based off his track record you’d believe much in him. Be skeptical for once.

It’s a small sample size since he transferred in Dec of that year and also remember he was only a freshman and coming off injury playing in his first few games. How many freshman really do well in their first 10 games or have learned to value defensive at that point? Come on, few even see the court much less put 17 on a team like Louisville 10 games into their career. Your team was good at the first of that year too so if he saw any action at all it was a good sign.

He shot 32% from outside and obviously had the greenlight to shoot with the amount of shots he put up. That’s a pretty good indication he is a good shooter and in another sample he played on your summer tour and led your team in scoring and shot lights out. That tells me what he is capable of.

You are talking about 2 years ago at UNCC at this point. He was all conference for a JuCo power since. Guys got a lot of potiental but a lot, but a lot of competition at this point. Both our wing starters return as well as adding some other wing shooters.

What has Pierria Henry done on any collegiate level :o

If you are a shooter and get benched on a Lutz team, you are bad.

Dude Bowden is a good shooter. HE IS NOT A GOOD PLAYER PERIOD.

What has Pierria Henry done on any collegiate level :o
Nothing yet. I saw enough of Bowden to tell me Major made the right choice. We already have “shooters” we need some guys to play defense and be leaders. Everything I’ve read sounds like Henry fits that bill.

It doesn’t look like he ever recorded a DNP’s. He was still getting at least 5 minutes a game even in close games. He probably wasn’t happy with that role, but I can name a lot of freshman who never got off the bench on worse teams, that went on to have good careers. You guys had a very good team that first couple months he was there and fell apart after he left at the end. Even seeing the court at all as a freshman playing on a top 25 type team at the time says a lot IMO. He sounds a lot like our shooting guard last year. He’d quit playing entire games on both offense and defense and to say he had attitude problems was an understatement considering he told the previous coach in a game to go F-himelf. Under Lebo it was night and day, and he was the leader of the team and all conference last year, ended up being an all time favoirte. There is some track record for dealing with his type successfully already.

Chipola was stacked and I read where Bowden came off the bench last year at Chipola and was still All Conference so it seems like he must have embraced that role while there. We have enough talent he will have to have a good attitude and play hard on both ends or we got guys to take his spot. I’ve not even got him penciled into the starting line up at this point with two returning starters on the wings. He really can’t go anywhere else now either with no redshirt other than D2. He really has to make it work so I doubt effort is an issue.

In addition to Murray landing at West Virginia, also see that Salecich is going cross-state to D-II Missouri Southern in Joplin. Good luck to both.

Canty headed to Boone.

No surprise - Staten no longer headed to Penn State.

In other ex-UDer news, Brandon Spearman will JUCO at Indian Hills.

Bowden sucks and Spears was a friggin’ head case. Can’t believe that’s still being debated.

I’d be much more concerned about Major is he let Spears stay on the team.

Staten now looking at Baylor, Miami-FL, South Carolina, Texas, and UofL. Visiting Pitino & Co. today, in fact.

With Staten now visiting West Virginia per Alex Kline, looks like Huggy could be loading up with former A-10 players. Of course, he just sent one to Temple, so not like the league isn’t getting something in return!

It’s official - Staten to West Virginia.

Some recent roster moves - Bona’s Sam de Haas returning to his native Netherlands to play pro ball, while St. Joe’s Todd O’Brien is headed to UAB.

BTW, speaking of players going pro, reading that ex-Niner Gokhan Sirin signed with Anadolu Efes Sports Club in Turkey.
