Dude Naw, NAW DUDE!!!
All this talk about Tech in our name is absurd. I’d much rather remain UNCC than anything that makes us sound like NC A&T or ITT.
There is really only one option here and it’s University of Charlotte. Anything else and your degrading. We are trying to get closer to the city of Charlotte, not separating ourselves.
So you’d rather be UNCC than Charlotte State? I prefer UCLT to anything, but if we aren’t willing to compromise then we may not ever get anything done.
I really hate this idea sorry. I know we hate the UNC in our name- but Charlotte State sounds retarded.
Righto. But when it comes down to is, realistically its gonna end up being UC or CSU. To me anything outside of UC is kind of stupid.
So you'd rather be UNCC than Charlotte State? I prefer UCLT to anything, but if we aren't willing to compromise then we may not ever get anything done.
We may only have one opportunity in our lifetime to change our name… we HAVE to get the best name now- no settling because we will never be satisfied- that means you will die a sad old person full of regret for allowing “them” to win and choosing the second best option. Second is just the best loser.
If we cannot convince them now- we can try again next year for UoC----- but if they DO change it to something retarded like Charlotte tech or state or whatever- we will live with that FOREVER!!!
no more name change thread jacking please
no more name change thread jacking please
I nominate this thread for High-Jacked Thread of the Year!!!![]()
As an Engineering student I have no problem with this. The William States Lee School of Engineering brings in 85% of the non state funding to this campus. We are the #1 patent seeking and #2 patents granted University in this nation. We are the only institution other than NIST to be certified to measurements in the nanometer range, making us a world leader in precision Metrology. The new Bioinformatics Center will help solidify our position as a world leader in bio-engineering and EPIC will make us a world leader in energy production technology.
All of this is good for the whole University long term. Our technically disciplines are helping us to carve a leading position in emerging fields throughout the world. Our positions in these fields as a world leader will bring recognition and financial success we can build on and redistribute across ALL programs. Eventually this investment will help pay for a Med School and the Liberal Arts Doctorates of the future. Like football, its growing pains now for a healthy future tomorrow.
great post

Thanks!!! Especially since I helped jack your thread!!!![]()
If you want to go to law school, get a B.S., not a B.A. You are much more attractive to both the schools and employers with a degree in science/math/engineering/accounting/etc
Follow my buddy’s path to riches:
or, just take the advice of the admissions dean I had a beer with in Atlanta - have a useful degree if you want to get in. “We get thousands of applications from english and poli sci majors”.
of course, i know this now. obviously, history degrees are a dime a dozen at law schools, same with engl, phil, poli sci, etc.
i’m terrible at math, so engineering, computers, chemistry, all that stuff is out. is out. i’m pretty good at biology, because i can remember stuff, but i hate that ****.
the reason those liberal arts degrees are so prevalent, and why i picked history, is because they do prepare you for legal training and the legal profession.
Thanks!!! Especially since I helped jack your thread!!!!
no worries. we all know the name change is a very important issue, too. its just that there are already 4 or 5 really good informational and debate-heavy threads on that issue, as you know.
the topic of this thread is something we need to talk about, too.
One more thing:
UNC Charlotte is like a 14 yr old boy. We will call him Norm. Norm has just hit a major growth spurt and his clothes are way too small now. Mommy and Daddy have neglected to notice, as they have 15 other children to tend to (including the golden child who we will call **** face). Norm is at the ripe young age where he wants to play sports including football with the rest of his buddies, but his parents have expressed concerns because they think extracurricular activities will have a negative affect on his grades, but he is old enough now to make his own decisions. He is also old enough to start working (with a permit) so he can buy his own clothes that are way cooler and trendier than anything his out-of-the-loop parents would buy him. With his new clothes and his athletic abilities now, he has become one of the most popular kids in the school. Soon he moves out of his parents house becomes rich and famous and tells his older siblings to **** off. The End.
One thing I’ve been told by people both inside and outside of the fine arts community is that a MFA is quickly becoming the new MBA. Business see in fine arts students an ability to think outside the box and a willingness to explore unconventional options.

this is priceless and a very good analogy.

In my MBA research I found that the University of Wisconsin has a Art Administration MBA Specialization.
I will be graduating with a degree in Meteorology.
The meteorology program at Charlotte is only about 7 years old. I can tell you that out of the Earth Sciences department it is the fastest growing major and has the best combined GPA out of the department.
I am very pleased with the direction that program is going in and will continue to be trending towards. Job had a great point in the “Charlotte Tech” aspect and I can see this. I started off as a major in Political Science and while I felt that it was a decent program, I felt it lacked some. Once I got into Meteorology I knew I had found the right fit.
Overall I wouldn’t mind if the University continues to shift toward the Technical side of schooling but it also wouldn’t bother me if it doesn’t. We just need to continue to find that Nic’he and distinguish ourself.

Al Roker?
Eason, I can’t believe you’re serious.
So you don’t enjoy going to the movies?
You never listen to music?
You think all the great authors who majored in English in college contributed nothing to society?
Why is your avatar a cartoon monkey, and not a numeral or a bunson burner?
Sheesh.

As an MFA holder, I’d love to see some evidence of this.
