Al Jefferson to the Bobcats

Wow, that was a perfect prediction.

I loved this season. The team was not the most talented, but was well coached and played with a ton of heart. I just bought a Hornets flag to go next to the 49ers flag in my classroom.
Kudos- that was a helluva call. Predict the Niners in the NCAA Tourney NOW!!!

JR Smith is a knuckle head but he’s is a talented knuckle head on a reasonable salary 5 million dollar salary. If you’ve ever look at his highlights you’d think he was a top 25 player. He’s got talent. He was a down last year because of the knee surgery early on but he killed it the last couple month. I still bet Phil Jackson would part with him for little like a couple 2nd rounders, maybe even for Henderson.

I’ve been impressed with Shawn Marrion too in the playoffs guarding Tony Parker. He’s can still be effective, maybe over pay him for a couple years to get him. You’ll need someone to guard Lebron for any shot.

This would be a pretty solid starting line up.

C Jefferson
F Hawes
F Marrion
G JR Smith
G Kemba

I’d not extend Gilchrest for any real money. Probably try to part ways with him this year.
I cant tell if this post is serious or not. You may be the first guy to campaign to take on JR Smith and his 12 million dollar contract or suggest a 38 yr old Marion could guard Lebron James.

I think Stiemsma is a FA too you know?
This.

SG is one of the weakest positions in the NBA. 5.7 million for a guy that was just 6th man of the year last year and could very likely average right at 20ppg as a starter for probably essentially nothing is something I think you look at if you want wing scoring. Clifford would probably do a better job keeping him in check too.

He was still having knee problems most of the year from his summer surgery but looked great the last month. 19ppg on great percentages. I’m just saying you could probably get him for 2nd round picks and probably even dump some bad salary on the Knicks or someone in a 3 team trade if you had some or maybe even get a pick back yourself depending on the deal.

Have you ever looked at the guy play? Seriously he’s like the biggest waste of talent in the NBA, but there is talent there to work with and that has been gotten out of him before.

or suggest a 38 yr old Marion could guard Lebron James.

We’ll 35 year old Marion did a pretty damn good job guarding 26 year old Lebron. I pretty much remember them winning a title and Lebron not scoring in the 4th quarters and doing much of nothing that series.

Marrion is also still doing a good job of guarding a quick 6’ all NBA Tony Parker right now who’s not doingmuch and still having very good seasons. You probably get him for cheap this go around if you could offer a starting type role on a playoff team maybe even a vet minimum.

I’m talking value here and realistic options. Would you rather have Deng or another knuckle head like Lance Stevenson for 12+ million each? I sure wouldn’t. Give me Marrion and JR for penny’s on the dollar and use the money for a quality bench.

I think Stiemsma is a FA too you know?

and? He’s 7 foot has started 40 games the last two years on a 2.5 million dollar contract. There is certainly lesser reserves and value out there among centers with size like that. All I ever said about the guy was he could block shots and hit 15 footers and that’s still true. Hell he shot 58% from the floor last year mostly on pick and pop offense.

Marion MAYBE if you think you’re contending for a title and you want to add a role player/veteran to the locker room. But if you’re still rebuilding you don’t go after a Marion.

I’d look to bring Sessions back as the back up PG.

For SG I’ve seen Aaron Afflalo trade mentioned… I’d be curious what that would tak to get done. He can play. I wish they had taken Beal over MKG

SF I’d be curious to see what Luol Deng wants…Depending on what Houston Does, I’d take a run at Chandler Parsons (RFA)… Trevor Ariza might be a more cost effective option… I don’t want Lance Stevenson, he is a loon and had disappeared in the playoffs so far. JR Smith is batshit crazy and wouldn’t touch him for the vet minimum- his shot selection is atrocious

I’m just giving you cheap realistic options. If you want to tie up 12+ million each in players like Deng or equally crazy Stephenson like others have suggested I think that would be far more stupid. You probably have to over pay to even get them.

Rebuilding? How does taking on 2 potential starters for probably like 10 million or less in salary stop you from rebuilding, if anything it gives you pretty good options and puts a guy like Gilchrest on the bench for a while longer while he is hopefully developing with less pressure.

Charlotte could be a top 4 seed in the east next year and even if they aren’t they could beat anyone probably but the heat in the east, there for they should be considered a contender or think in those terms and build to beat them. Having low post offense with Jefferson is already a great start.

Say what you want about Marrion’s age, he is actually only turning 36 this May, he’s still holding a quick 6’ hall of fame guard to below NBA average effiency right now in Tony Parker and he’s pretty durable. When he guarded an equally younger old Lebron in the finals and held him to friggen 17.8 ppg and was a big part of why they won the championship. Who else are you going to realistically get for as cheap and someone to try to slow Lebron down? Who else in life has ever held Lebron to 18ppg in a series?

Effective FG% is a statistic that adjust for the fact that 3 pointers are worth more than 2 pointers. The fact is JR Smith is still getting point value on his shots because he hits a lot of 3 pointers atrocious or not he scores on a great percentage of his shots for a wing.

.509% JR Smith
.509% Jordan
.506% Wade

JR Smith is not tradable. The Knicks know this. They are going to have to eat a terrible contract to dump him, and thats not something they are willing to do. And the reason why he’s not tradable is because he’s batshit crazy.

At his ceiling, his a flawed scorer off the bench. But what he is right now is a super streaky chucker who frequently breaks off from the offense, gets suspended, fined, and is a reported locker room cancer who dogs it on the defensive end. And you want to give draft picks to bring a guy like that onto a young team built around an definsive identity? lolno

That was 3 years ago! I remember how great Amare Stoudamire was at the pick and roll. Maybe we should bring him in too.

I have no real issues with Marion. I dont think he’s a good fit. We need scoring at the SF and you arent getting that consistently from him. He’s having a pretty awful series offensively against the Spurs and its not like he’s going to get better.

No, what you said that that he is the best combo shotblocker/pick and pop guy in the league. Which is of course equal parts wrong and crazy.

i dont even…I mean seriously. What the actual fuck is going on here?

He’s currently holding a quick 6’ future NBA hall of famer in Tony Parker to a 13.3 Player Effeciency Rating as the primary defender to below the adjusted NBA average.

Marrion 10.4 ppg on 53% effective FG%

Roll with him then as your starter then and let Lebron educate him.

I said “One of the best that year” and the fact is he was. He’s still shooting well over 50% from 15 feet, even better this year infact and has a great block percentage. Find me another Center shooting 50% from 15 feet and blocking 2 shots per 36. Those are his primary skills and he’s quite good at both if you are being honest.

Just what it says. The fact is JR Smith has been an efficient scorer throughout his career, more so than people can really wrap there head around because they don’t grasp the fact most of those atrocious 3 point shots he is flinging up do go in at a great 37% throughout his career, and that 3’s are worth more than 2’s and need to be taken into account as such. He’s also got a career 47% from 2’s which is solid for a guard as well. Heck Jordan’s was 49.5%.

Hold on. Wait. This is wrong and leads me to believe you arent watching this series. For starters, Parker is hurt so lets not act like we have vintage Parker here.

Secondly, Marion and Harris are the primary defenders on Parker but they are sagging off of him. The reason why Parker’s numbers are down is that the Mavs have packed the paint because the Spurs bigs cant shoot and they are forcing parker to either pull up (not his game) or try to get to the rim (which he’s going, just not converting). And the pick and roll isnt there, but that has nothing to do with Marion and everything to do with how clogged the Mavs have made the paint. Start watching the games instead of reading box scores.

Marrion 10.4 ppg on 53% effective FG% Gilchrese 7.2 on 47.5 % effective FG%

MKG is like 19 yrs old and has the makings of an elite defender. I’m ok taking my time with him and lnot overpaying for a guy in the twilight of his career. The Lebron point is stupid because neither of them will be stopping him.

And advanced metrics suck and make you stupid about basketball.

no

From 16 feet out to the 3 point line Steisma shot .545% this year and thats where most of his shots came from on the way to 58% from the floor. He was 2nd in the NBA at .500% the year I said that.

I can find no one else but Lebron shooting .500% from that range much less a big man.

comparisons of the traditionally good from that range in past years this year.

Durrant .445%
Dirk .412%
Garnett .286%

You can’t find me a better shooter from 15 that blocks as many shots. .545%

He only shoots the ball twice a game! Twice! Thats it! And he was just cut by his 3rd team in 3 yrs so it appears that 3 league front offices disagree that he is one of the best pick and pop/block guys is the nba.
