I finally had a chance to read Reynoldâs resume, and itâs impressive. I think heâs going to be a great hire, and a very important one. A solid defense has to start up front.
I think that Albin has assembled a fine staff. Hopefully they will work well as a team, but we wonât know that for awhile.
A coaching staff is like any other organization; you want good people, but you also need an environment where they can each do their best. If everyone works together well, the sum will be greater than the parts. In this case, most of these coaches have never worked together, so it may take awhile to get them all on the same page. Thatâs why it was encouraging to me to hear the high school coach comment about how they were all working together so well. In the long run, though, what matters is results.
I hope we havenât paid either of our last 2 offensive coordinators that much. If we are paying Mike Miller $500k to sit at home thatâs probably the biggest waste of money ever by our AD and thatâs saying something.
At 15:30, Albin addresses the question of whether there will be staff changes for year 2. He isnât planning on any staff changes. They did hire a new trainer, and are looking to add one (unnamed) position. Albin preceded this by discussing that, in his experience, success comes from staff continuity, and he want to have continuity at Charlotte.
I finally got around to listening to this. Besides not changing staff, another thing that stood out to me is how gung ho Albin is for a G6 playoff. He is convinced thatâs where this is headed and he thinks that this yearâs playoff has expedited that outcome. He likes our chances in that scenario - but I donât know if he has a good gauge on what the fanbase thinks about that.
He wasnât blaming Mike but he said the SEC game in November is not a good idea and he said we will never do that again while he is coach.
He will take a player thatâs a good person over one that might be more talented, every time.
He did have a lot to say about staffing / GM, and similar topics. Worth a listen.
One thing I will say is that Albin comes off as very sincere, and as transparent as he can be.
