Glad I got to see them in Raleigh during the 90s.

Saw them at Groves Stadium on our bicentennial July 4th, 1976. Opening acts were Bob Seger and Silver Bullet Band, BOA, and Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer. This was a good lineup that worked well. The fireworks were phenomenal. They/Aerosmith were surprisingly tight considering their drug issues in the 70’s.

Speaking of drugs, apparently Black Oak Arkansas drummer Tommy Aldridge left the group because of his band mates heavy use of hashish. Since he ended up with Ozzy Osbourne and Whitesnake, among others, career turned out okay.

In addition, BOA frontman Jim Mangrum is said to have influenced the stage personas of Axl Rose and David Lee Roth. I can definitely see that.

I can see it. Maybe that’s why I am not a big fan of any of them. They are all so over the top as front men.

From hash to all that Ozzy did? What was Aldridge thinking?

Well, more than just the drug use. Musical direction as well, saying years later that Mangrum’s voice sounded like a dentist drill! Even though Aldridge is from Jackson, Mississippi, hard rock and metal more his thing than Southern rock. But yes, Ozzy definitely a poster boy for drug use.

Well, not a big Mayer fan, so just looked up the lyrics. Definitely not great but I’ve got news for Annie Clark - there are way worse! Gotta be more to that reaction. Grammys certainly liked it, as do his legion of devotees.

Not happy campers these days:

Journey was over for me as soon as Gregg Rolie left the band.
