So when does North Mecklenburg’s coach come out and say we’re not recruiting him (think Jamie Skeen)?
So are we going after this guy? Charlotte is not listed on either of those sites as a school that is interested.
Not sure if he’s on our radar or if he even knows we exist. But as both a North Meck and UNCC alum, I would certainly hope there is a mutual interest in and by the local talent. They can’t all end up at Wake Forest! :rolleyes:

It’s not just North Meck. In the thread I started about local high school hoops, apparently there is top-notch talent not only at North Meck (Marhold and Sullivan), but at Vance (Marquis Rankin and Jacoby Davis), Waddell (Jervon Pressley) and Concord Cannon (Jarell Eddie) as well.

Chisox, I know East Meck is supposed to have a pretty good team this season. Anyone we should be targeting from the Eagles? We’ve had a couple of decent Niners come out of that program in George Jackson and Byron Dinkins.

Not too familiar with this year’s team. They were nasty last year though, and return almost the entire team.
If you get a chance to check out East Meck, do it. They are a talented team and have a few good bodies. They lost one over the summer to a private school that will be playing college ball somewhere. But I will say they have an up and coming JV coach, also a UNC Charlotte alum and big Charlotte sports supporter, who you should say hello to if you get a chance to see an East game.

The Big O has East Meck ranked #1 in their boys high school hoops “Sweet 16” and the Eagles started the year by knocking off #14 Harding 74-54. 6-5 Blake Smith is the East player who transferred to Hope Christian (Kings Mountain, NC) for his senior season. Langston Wertz refers to Smith as a “3-point specialist” in the East Meck-Harding game wrap-up in today’s paper.
Blake is a wonderful talent and very good student. Best of luck to him. If East had him this year, it would probably get pretty ugly for some other teams.

On hand Wednesday night were North Mecklenburg High teammates[B] Andre Marhold[/B], a 6-foot-6 power forward, and 6-7 wingman [B]Bernard Sullivan[/B], both of whom Charlotte has been targeting in recruiting. Both are juniors.

Agreed. I got to see Marhold play several times last year when we hosted the ME-CA Tournament at Robinson. He’s a beast - they have to make him play center, of course, but he’s plenty wide enough to play PF even though he’s only 6’6". He had a real big presence down low.
