His name is Zac Swansey. I am suprised that we arent on his list since there is a recruiting attack on the state of Georgia. Has an offer from Umass
I talked to a Niner fan (MM) who saw Wilderness play in the Charleston tournament. He said Wilderness was clearly the best player out there. Superior athletically and strong body. Didn’t shoot much from the outside. Said he did remind him of Eddie size/style but perhaps a little taller. Not great offensively in terms of long range shooter but should be a contributor from day one.
Also, Niner fan was wearing his Charlotte stuff and talked to Wilderness. His teammates thought he was a Charlotte coach at first. Nice guy, said he watched IU game, and looking forward to being here next year. Also, that Tatum will sign in the Spring, no hesitations.
His team lost in the 4A finals to the #1 team in the state. The final was 54 - 50 and he was held to 9 points, but he did have the play of the game when he posterized a 6’6" kid from Westlake and said “Welcome to the Wilderness!!”
In their 82-71 win, the Wildcats responded as if the questions were merely rhetorical. Behind 29 points from An'Juan Wilderness, the Wildcats (26-6) flicked away a nine-point second-quarter deficit and earned a chance at their second consecutive state title.
But the Wildcats rode Wilderness to the lead. The senior post player scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and worked in a steal in the second period, sparking a 19-4 run over the final 4:25 of the half.
seems like a very experienced player, with many team skills, can rebound, can pass, can catch, can dribble and plays D.
scores very easy in many different ways, last night he was able to do this against a large front line. Put backs, jump shots in the lane, also drives the lane well. Has a nice looking shot around the basket, soft off the backboard or on the rim. This is why he can score in bunches.
Played PF, on a team that seemed to like to go up and down the court in a fast pace, he could handle this well.
Probably a SF in college (plays more like a PF than a shooting guard). Not sure how tall he is, 6-5 or 6-6 ? did not really remind me of Eddie, seemed to be more of a natural scorer, but maybe that is same way Eddie played in HS.
He reminds me a little bit of the guy who played for cinci we recruited roy bright but more athletic and Q Greer from Depaul, also a little bit like Demarco Johnson in terms of does not look like he would be athletic but when he plays is very athletic and plays under control, not rushed when he has the ball. Not sure if he has the size yet, but he reminds me of a typical scoring CUSA PF.
With his skills he will find a way to fit in quickly for us next year, the anouncers kept talking about him playing at Charlotte and how well he would play at the next level.
Like Tatum I think Wilderness really went under the radar. Arkansas really wanted this guy, as well as other big time schools. We’ve got a ball player on our hands… and he’ll be here for a while
